Default Water Pump Heater Hose hits Mount

When the water pump water heater hose leaves the fitting to the water punp, it is a very tight fit to get passed the rubber motor mount on the passenger side. I have a 1960 corvette with an aftermarket water pump, a weiand model. However, the exit location for even a stock water pump appears to be exactly the same. I was wondering if there is a special fitting that is supposed to be used to get the water heater house around the motor mount or is it supposed to be just a really tight fit?

The stock fitting is curved forwards away from the face of engine.

Can the angled fitting be installed with the pump on the engine? Is there enough clearance to rotate the fitting with the angle on the fitting or do you have to remove the pump to install the angled fitting?

Thanks Doug.

Originals fit just like yours. The fitting is angled slightly forward. And then tight thru the strap under the generator.

Even with the angled fitting its close. Proper placement, hose length and judicious strapping is important. My '61 hose is away from the fan belt but is rubbing the metal over the motor mount...I'm dealing with that this weekend.

Yes, it can - it was installed at St. Louis, with the water pump and engine mount bracket in place from the engine plant.

Frank:

Going to reroute them? or are you using some kind of chaffing gear to cover the hoses?

Doug, yours looks like it has an extension on the pump before the fitting. Would you have more room if you removed that extension?

As usual I'm doing the whole shebang. I determined that I have the correct water pump 'angled' fitting....soooo I've ordered the complete (correct) radiator/heater hoses, clamps and a new heater control valve from ZIP and when it all gets here I'm installing it with the correct straps and brackets and I'm hoping a complete redo will eliminate both the rub and any contact with fan belt. I'll follow the AIM exactly.
The hoses have been on there there 5 years I've owned the car and God knows how long before that so its overdue!

I'll be replacing my frayed tach cable at the same time.
Its always something...

Thanks Guys. I got a correct 20 degree angled fitting and installed it today. Everything fits much more nicely and I do not feel like the side of the hose is going to break against the fitting anymore. Worked out great. Thanks again.
