Default 61 Gulf Oil Racer

Hey guys, this young lady just showed up here looking great as ever. Gonna do a few minor touch ups and a tune up, go through the brakes etc etc etc just to make sure she's perfect. This car is beautifully done.

Is there a source on headlight covers?

Mike Ernst did a fine job discovering and restoring this car years ago.
How he found many of the original parts is another story.
Great job Mike.

Thanks for sharing those very nice photos of a great car. Just noticed the cross bars under the front and rear of the car. Do you happen to know what the purpose of those was?

I believe that an educated guess would be those are stabilizer/ anti-sway bars. Based on the addition for the 62 gulf car, I wouldn't hesitate to say that these were also used to help jack the car up during pit stops. Dual purposes I suppose. Maybe someone on here will know.

This is NOT the 62 Mike restored. This is a 61 with side cove trim. Paint scheme was different on the 62.

That's a gorgeous car. I'd be happy to be identified with it, but in fact, mine was a '62. In both 61 and 62, Gulf Oil cars were numbered 1 and 2, or 10 and 11, depending on different race venues. 1and 2 at Sebring, 10 and 11 at Daytona, etc. I chose to go with the car configuration that was used on mine at Sebring where it was number 2. It's an honor to be remembered!
The additional bars that you can see are for jacking only. Gulf used an auxiliary second front stabilizer that was much farther under the front, and actually removed the rear stabilizer bar.

A few years ago I built some hood louver brackets patterned after the 1960 Lemans style hood. I have seen various versions as they were probably all hand made by someone else each year. These look different and I was wondering if you would post up a close-up of the bracket from the bottom side of the hood. Below is a picture of one of the ones I made.

Thanks
Klaus
