Default Parking brake for Seville rear calipers on C1

I have a rear disc brake kit on my 61 that uses Seville calipers.
When I installed the kit and adapted my Corvette cable to the
calipers, the parking brake worked great. Now, with about 5000 miles
on them the parking brake is weak. The handle pulls all the way out
and does not hold very well.
Does anyone know a trick of adjusting the parking brake by
pulling the parking brake handle several times while applying the
brakes. Or, not applying the brakes. Most calipers will adjust this
way.

with the seville brakes you are supposed to use the parking brake every time you 'park'; this is supposed to keep it adjusted... good luck with that, but worth trying...

i have always had to manually adjust the brakes; but then i don't religously set the brake either..... see post # 5

I read from your post that the parking brake arm on the caliper
must always rest on the rear bracket of the caliper (when parking brake is not pulled). I'm sure that I have my cables too tight
and the arm does not fully return. This seems to be what allows the automatic adjustment to take place. Will fix this and see if it works.

Thanks,
Ray

you are probably going to have to manually adjust the movement to start with as simply loosening the cables to allow the lever to rest on the stop is going to make the brake pull even longer.

Bill,
Re: ’85 Seville new rear calipers don’t work right
From Cadillac web site........
Be aware that the rear pads have a "button" on the inner pad
that is supposed to rest in a recess on the piston.
Without that button positioned correctly the piston will not ratchet ,
it will just rotate out then back in.

I think that this is what is going on....
The parking brake will not adjust itself.

yep, the piston has to be 'restrained' from turning so that the sprag clutch inside can catch. see the 'buttons' on the pad in the pic and recesses for them in the pistons

but, i've always adjusted mine manually....

Thanks Bill,
The picture says it all.... I don't know why that I do
everything twice. If it's a 50-50 chance to do it right, I'm
usually 100 pct wrong.
