Default Nigeria scam on fuel injection units craiglist UK

I saw a fuel injection unit(one of several)for a 1964 C2 for a very cheap price for sale at craiglist London UK
This is what the ad says:
1963L-1965 Rochester Fuel Injection unit (part# 7017380, serial 224X) with FI distributor (model 1111022 serial 3GX). Rochester totally rebuit/restored by world recognized FI rebuilder, Jack Podell and unused, stored on shelf for approx 10 years. Distributor seems sound and turns freely but is not restored to the level of the FI unit. Pictures speak for themselves. Unlikely there's another in better original/restored condition.

I emailed the seller and asked if the fuel injection unit had the correct plastic undertray(which is a part i that is NOT there) on the unit and here is the replay:
Hi Roger,
The fuel injection unit is still for sale. The fuel injection is with the correct plastic undertray under the unit.
I'm located in Irvine at my uncle's place .He recently passed away and I have to sell his stuff. You can come to collect or I can ship it to you .
Let me know what you prefer.
Regards
Peter Balaban

Well, i suppose that those Nigerian scammers does not know much about Corvettes

My next email to this scammer will be if the fuel injection unit have the correct "SOB" markings

About an hour ago i sent this email:
Hi again
I forgot to ask if it have SOB stamped on the flange? The unit is restored by Jack Podell so assume it bolt right on?

If you sell it for 2000 that is

Regards
Roger

Here is the reply:

Hi Roger,
I send you more pics.It has SOB stamped on the flange .
I don't use paypal.A had problems with them. They have to give ma 3000 pounds since March 2011.I don't want to hear about them.
I accept bank transfer.
My best price is 2100 pounds +shipping fees.
Where are you located?
Let me know.

Obviously the gentleman has one of the lost rare prototype "Special Oversqueezed Butane" diesel units. This engine was only available on April 1, 1963, and was also known as the BS feature, sold as part of the London Bridge option.

I'd be tempted to make sure it has the correct UK-spec conversion of the intake to the right hand side, correct for RHD cars exported to UK and Australia until mid-1968... there are so many uninformed sellers out there with a US and general export configuration thinking they are UK models; I can only use the UK export spec unit.

Maybe he could tell you if the restoration includes all the correct decals, now hard to come by, including the orange "Unleaded Fuel Only- Minimum Octane 135 or greater" I understand Jack was meticulous in making sure these markings were part of his fine work.

Here, of course, is a pic of that RH drive unit on a car....

Note the orange sticker, the signature, and the SOB on the flange on this one.....this must be the real deal

photo-shopping at the same time, ah what a morning!

BEWARE: the above photo may be a scam, as Mr. Podell was only known to sign FI units during this period with a bit of leftover green birdcage primer.

Photoshop? I happen to know that this pic is a Z06, snapped just last week on a slow boat back from Australia, were it has been used to deliver fish since 1965. You may have heard of it by its drag racing name "Something Fishy"

Well, I stand corrected! I lost touch with Mr. Podell for a number of years while I was working in Nigeria... maybe he did a few things I'm not aware of. My morning laugh has been satisfied.

Dear Saint,

Get a Forum member in Orange County, California to agree to a short drive, then ask the seller for his address in Irvine, telling him you'd like to come over and inspect his complete induction system in person!

"You can come to collect or I can ship it to you"???

I know you guys are having some fun and not saying it's not a scammer but this is not characteristic of a scam.

I mean they never say you can pick it up.

Just ask the guy his address. Tell him your brother lives in SoCal or wherever and he'll come by with the cash and pick it up.

me thinks the seller is putting that in there as a bluff to make it sound legit...why else would he fall for the SOB line?

note to OP...ask him to verify 1 last item before u wire the $$...is the manufactures name present; U'rmaiseasy

Could be. But this is not Nigerian. Maybe US bread scammer did a copy paste deal.

Again I'd simply have a SoCal local member check it.

Don't bother, it'll never get close to an inspection....

If this guy's got a unit with a plastic base plate and SOB stamp on the flange, he may be willing to takes some pics of the condenser inside the air meter...
