Take a peak underneath the glove box and you will find a pop-riveted on aluminum tab on the heater box that has the VIN number embossed into it ..

The trim tag should be right nearby as well. This will give you some basic data on color, etc.
The VIN will also be on the stamp pad of the engine block (right front side). If the car has the original engine or someone has done a restamp, they should match.

Exactly where on the motor do you look for the VIN. I do not know what the stamp pad is. Please be specific.
Thanks

The engine stamp pad is located on the front (your) passenger side, at the base of the head. Most likely painted. The pad is about 1cm wide and 5cm long.
The stamp on the pad will give you the partial VIN of the serial number of the car and the engine build dqate and code
ie. For the car 40837S100000 the engine pad would look like
"F0114SL 100000"
The engine code which is off my car can be decifered into Manufactured at Flint, on 14th Jan, 327/300 with powerglide and A/C
There is also two stamps on the frame. Both on the left hand side. One under the door, not visible, and the other on top of the rear kickup, I have not tried this, however I am lead to beleive that it is visible with a mirror
