C1 Hardtop Rack
I finally have a huge warehouse for my cars. This means I can take the hardtop off the '58. Anyone have any experience with those dollys that you can place a hardtop on and roll it around? Amazon.com has a few for very reasonable prices.
Any experience - or thoughts?

Richard-I see you are from Bonita Springs-we lived in Naples for a few years back in the '90's. Miss the climate. There was always a bunch of nice cars in the area
Your '58 looks nice-would like to see more pictures of it!!!!!

Just tried to find the receipt, think it was from Amazon or EBay , make sure you order the one with the Free cover., it comes flat pack, very sturdy. If I find the link I will post it

The one I got from Eckler's was sub-standard...the black foam guards left black 'crumbs' on my white hardtop after storage....I wound up putting pipe foam insulation around those pieces. The caster wheels wouldn't turn 360* because they weren't located far enough down...had to modify that. Then the top would jump precariously around when moving the cart so I pop-riveted a nylon strap and buckle to the cart to secure the top...
Finally, NOW it's pretty handy..

Run a piece of rod with nuts on each end through the side brackets and hang it on two hooks on the wall; most "racks" permanently distort the front or rear weatherstrips.

I like that idea. I hang the nose cone of my Lola that way. Maybe I'll hang the '58 hardtop next to it.
I wondered about the distortion of the weatherstrip material.

I found one very similar on Ecklers, http://www.ecklerscorvette.com/corve...1956-2004.html
But I think I got it from Corvette Central or Paragon or ?

I should have added that I now store the top in the overhead of my garage.

Since I redid mine, I store it on the car, I think the car looks better with the hardtop.....

C1 Hardtop rack
Bought a roller rack from Corvette Central for my 93, built the rack for under $50 when I bought my 67. Had my blacksmith cut steel square tubing using my 93 as a chinese drawing. Simple welding and some wheels from hardware store. Works just as well as the one I bought.

The car is much cooler with the top on. Summer sun in south Florida is brutal. I usually take it off in the winter.

That's not my experience.. without A/C -- running in Florida summers with the hardtop on puts you inside a steamy 'greenhouse' due to the amount of clear plexiglass exposing the interior to the sun....there is also a lot less air movement in the cockpit. Soft tops generally leak air around the pads and deck seals and give some relieve when you're moving...
I'm not sure I'll ever put mine back on the '61.

If you plan to regularly put the top on and off a hoist is the way to go for sure. It also solves floor storage problems if you have a space issue. For me the $99 fix works.
