Default Question on 1958-60 Hood Weatherstrip Seal

A question came up some time ago about hood weatherstripping on a 58 thru 62.
My 60 has no hood weatherstripping (w/s). What would the consequences be of keeping the underside back of the hood clean and place the piece of w/s on the body ledge that runs across the top of the engine compartment and let the hood drop down on it creating a seal? I noticed a channel under the body ledge at the back of the engine compartment that runs from side to side and thought that maybe the w/s might have been originally secured in the channel and maybe glued on top to the upper ledge above the channel area.

On the hood, its out of sight therefore out of mind....and it is also covering a rain/water channel....this is not a scientific conclusion however...to me do whatever you want...mine is the factory location......as I never changed it nor needed too

The hood seal goes on the back of the hood.
