Default Starter Solenoid Purple Wire

I have a 67 with a small block. With respect to the purple and pink wires, which connect to the solenoid, Which one connects to the terminal on the block side and which goes to the outside terminal?

Also, with and HEI distributor, do you need the ballast resistor or can you wire from ignition switch to the Distributor direct?

Although mine's a '65, they may be identical for this.

Here's a couple of pics of the wiring that may help you.

Good luck!

Looks like purple goes on the terminal closest to the block. I think I wired mine backwards which may be why I get nothing when trying to start the car..

If you can see it, the purple goes to the terminal marked "S" and the pink to "R"

Just swapped the wires and bingo...... I still would like to know if with the HEI distributor, do you need to run through a ballist resistor.

The ballast is coil specific, the points or HEI just tell the coil when to fire.

i put a gm hei in my 68,,, i eliminated teh "resistor wire" that went to teh points distributor, and ran a 12 gauge wire directly to the dist from teh ignition tab on teh fuse box,, easy and neat....

Bypass the resistor. 12v to the HEI.

I went one step further and ran 12 volts fused from the battery to the HEI through a relay. Now I use the ignition switch feed to power/excite the relay.
