Default 64 Powerglide shift boot question

I am just finishing up my 64 Coupe with powerglide and am puzzled about the shift boot. I can only find an "upper shift boot" for a 64 powerglide. I see that there is a lower boot for 63 and other years. Is there supposed to be a lower boot for a 64 powerglide?

The 64 does use a lower boot, and like the upper one, it is unique to the 64 Powerglide. The 64 lower boot, looks very much like the 64-67 manual boot. It has a round hole in the center of it, that the shifter comes up through.

The 64 lower is not being reproduced, that I'm aware of. If you need a lower boot, which I'm sure you do, you might be able to use the boot for a 64-67 manual trans, but this is just a guess.

I don't know if you can use the 65-67 automatic lower boot, because it's designed to sit under the shifter, and just the lever, goes through the side of the boot.

sorry for the crappy pic, but in the upper center is an original 64 lower boot.. it does look a lot like the manual boot. I can take a better pic this weekend if it would help..

I really appreciate the info. I probably had the original but I think I threw it away. I'll try the one you suggest as I have one already. I should be able to make it fit. Thanks for your help.

Interesting, let me know if that fits. I'm sure mine is missing as well, I get a warm draft up through the shifter all time. I assume the boot would help.

I just finished restoring my 64. The lower boot for the PG was one of the few parts that I couldn't find as a reproduction or an original. I used the manual boot. It does fit but the rubber bunches up a bit at the top (PARK) and bottom (LOW) of the shifter throw. You really have to shove it hard to push it into "P" or "L". If I had to do it again I might cut a little slit in the rubber at the top and bottom of the hole to relieve some of compression of the rubber boot.

I've got a 63 powerglide boot but it won't work. I also have a 4spd manual boot for a 65 that I'm going to try. I think if I invert the boot portion down that it may work. I am hoping that would solve the bunching up problem in park. I haven't taken it back apart yet but I just got back from a show and I also was getting a lot of hot air through there. I'll try to get back with my results soon. Thanks for all the input.

I have used the 4spd boot in the past I think I put a plastic tie on it to hold the position on the lever to keep it from interfering But its been a long time since I have done one.

Thanks Mark, That's a good idea. I may try to trade it for a 3spd one at Carlisle if that may work better.

If you're not chasing original appearance points, there are aftermarket universal upper boots available, some rubber and some leather ot vinyl AIR.
