Default Will a 1963 0r 1964 Grill Fit a 1966?

The eggcrate type grill on my 1966 convertible is becoming a PITA to clean. I noticed that the 1963s and 1964s have a simpler type grill. Is it possible to swap grills without any other changes to the fiberglass?

Here you can see how the grille attach to the 1964 Corvette

The 1963 and 1964 grilles have an aluminum surround at both ends and across the bottom of the grille opening that is not attached to the grille. The surround attaches to the fiberglass with screws and the opening has tabs (as I recall) for the surround to attach to, again as I'm recalling. Not sure how difficult it might be to install the surround in a later mid-year grille opening, but shouldn't be all that difficult I'd think.

The grille itself should fit without much trouble, the mounting brackets for the early grilles are different than later ones, but not much of a problem to change the brackets I'd think.

I didn't install the surround when I finished my '64. I think it looks much cleaner, but's my opinion.

Paint the center black, it will look like a 65.... (doing this now on the eggcrate that came with my 65)

Here's a pic that shows the trim around the grille.

I like it with the proper trim mouldings.

I am sure it looks nice. But it will really show the dirt in black. Thats what I dislike about the grill on my 07 Silverado SS. PITA to clean.

63-64 grills require different bumper brackets and 10 tabs on the opening to mount it, only uses 2 brackets on inner fender instead of 4.

Sometimes the "redheaded stepchild" has an "inner beauty." That goes for the interior also.

I put a 65 grill in my 63, and the front end never looked so good I left the bumper off.......and it cleaned the front right straight up....
