Default stupid tire question

205/75/R15 vs 215/70/R15

What is the difference? The 215 is wider? Which is taller?

Thanks

The first section is the width in millimeters, the second is the height of the sidewall from wheel to tread (as a percentage of the width), then obviously the wheel size.

205/75/R15 is 205mm wide, 153.75mm tall to the edge of the wheel.
215/70/R15 is 215mm wide, 150.5mm tall to the edge of the wheel.

A 10mm difference is like .4" or so. So less than half an inch difference in width, and only 6mm difference in total tire height.

205 & 215 = width in mm
70 &75 = aspect ratio (sidewall to width in %)
R15 = Radial tire for 15" rim

I hope/think this is correct.

It varies somewhat by manufacturer, but 215/70's are nominally 26.9" in diameter, and 205/75's are 27.1"; the original 7.75-15's were also 27.1". Not enough difference to affect speedo accuracy.
