World' first 63 SW convertible?
Saw this at the recent Oceana NAS air show in Virginia Beach.
Apparently, the SW "top" is mounted the same as the aux hardtop was. I thought this was really interesting.

Interesting! Looks like it is also a "rare" '63 big block (hood, at least) car.

I've seen these before, but not with the detail (gas cap, rear window stainless trim) shown on the red car in the picture. Wish there were more pics, I'm wondering if you have to totally remove the top to fill the gas tank? Would like to see the side window details, I presume the upper "door area" is configured to work with convertible window glass.

Holy cr@p....it had me fooled for a minute.
I think it's actually pretty darn slick if you want a different look for an occasional cruise.
I used to write software for the old flight simulators at Oceana....I'm betting a pilot owns that car. Those 'throttle jockeys' love speed and classic lines...

Wonder if somebody ever cut the center bar out of those to make it work on '64 to '67s/

I have a C6, I thought this was a 63 SW, initially. I was surprised when it turned out to be a vert.

Neat - but I bet it jiggles around enough to wreak havoc with the clear coat...just like a regular hardtop... Protective vinyl strips would look hokey in this particular case unfortunately.

When I bought my first Corvette in 1977, I got a 396 '65 roadster for $2500. One of the reasons was, the convertibles were flat-out the black sheep back then! I mean, GM dropped the convertible in the Corvette the prior year.
I remember these custom hardtops in split and regular form being sold back then, and the idea was to make your cheap, crappy roadster look like one of those cool coupes!!

This SWC hardtop was manufactured by a friend of mine, Dan Short. He owns a classic car restoration company called FantomWorks http://www.fantomworks.com/. When I find a '67 427/435 convertible to buy, Dan is going to make this hardtop for my car.
I believe Dan custom made the hood.
Yes, Dan is a pilot!
Yes, the car can be fueled through the gas cap. There is an extension from the SWC hardtop to the original filler cap.
The glass is not convertible glass.
There is no abrasion to the paint with this system. That was taken care of and that’s a secret on how it was done.
I have a lot of pics of this car, but I don't see an option to post with attachments. Help anyone???

I am pretty sure people were mentioning the fact that it could be fueled through the gas cap. Unsure about the window glass, but, it was supposed to be usable as the aux top was, so, I would assume it would be the vert glass.

I see from the pics that the door window opening rear line is different than that for convertible glass, and different than that shown on the blue top shown in an above post.
So - you have to change over the door window glass to something else - coupe windows? - and then can't use the car with a convertible top anymore?
Kinda defeats the purpose of having a "removable" hardtop, doesn't it? Might as well just buy a coupe to start with, and have better/bigger storage area utilization as well!

Top removes and convertible (untouched and unmodified) is right below. There are inserts that come out of the top to fill in the void because of the different glass.
Conversion from coupe to convertible is about 10 minutes.

Top works with convertible glass door glass. It is a convertible (unmodified in ANY way).
