Default Power Steering Option

I read or was told that power steering was not avalible on a 365 H/P Vet. If so, was P/S avalible on 340,350 or 375 H/P Vets.

My 66 L79 (350hp) has power steering - also has A/C. I also read somewhere in the past about an issue with the 365hp and power steering but cannot located or remember the article. Someone on here has the right information!

no power steering for the 365, and 375. they used a larger 5 quart oil pan that did not allow the PS relay rod

The 365 hp version had a six quart oil pan. Don't know about the F/I, but I assume the same. Other hp 327's had a standard five quart oil pan.

I thought it was 4 quarts in the pan a 1 quart oil filter for a total of a 5 quart system. The same with the solid lifter motors with a larger oil pan that held one more quart

I copied this quote from JohnZ on an earlier post this week. I'll post the link in the next post.

That's correct - power steering wasn't available with either the 365hp or 375hp engines due to the 6-quart oil pan, and there was no way to order either one of those engines with a 5-quart pan.

Here's the post where JohnZ states the 365 had the 6 qt oil pan.

Possibly it's semantics, but the 365 oil pan has always been identified as the 6 quart oil pan as in this ad below. It doesn't really matter as long as you get the larger pan, and I think the original question as to why no power steering is offered on the 365 was answered either way. The oil pan was in the way.

Maybe we could just call it the oil pan for the 6 quart system.

That's why I normally refer to them as the 5-quart (system) pan and the 6-quart (system) pan.
