Default T-10 trans decode help needed

This transmission came in my 65 el camino but I dont know anything about it other than its been rebuilt and upgraded a bit. I know the original 16 spline output shaft was replaced with a 27 spline output shaft along with a complete rebuild. Here are the only numbers Ive found on it,

Main case- T10-1C 3782212

Tailshaft- T10 7D 3813490 / Has R-1 on a small tag

Side cover-8-10-62A

Bellhousing- 3858403

The input shaft has no splines and I was told that means its a close ratio with a 2.20 first gear. Im just trying to figure out what it is that I have. Any help would be great.

The main case was used on '61-'62 Corvettes and 409 passenger cars.

The tailhousing was used on '62-'63 Corvettes and passenger cars.

Put it in 1st gear and see how many turns of the input shaft it takes to turn the output shaft one full turn; if it's 2-1/4, it's a close-ratio 2.20 low gear - if it's 2-1/2, it's a wide-ratio.

I think you mean the input shaft has no rings (or grooves) around it, instead of no splines.

Yep your right Tom, I did mean rings, not splines.

Im seeing T10-1C transmissions with either a T10-7B, or a T-10-7D tail shaft housing. I know the 7-B housing is about 5/8" longer that the 7-D, but don't know which is correct for my Jan 62 Vette.

Where can I find Borg Warner T10 decode information?

On the driver's side rear of the main case, you might find a stamping that begins with "W" and ends with "1", "2" or "3"; the "W" stands for
Warner Gear" and the numbers indicate which shift assembled the trans; If there's nothing, you've got one built from parts.

Im trying to find answers to 2 questions;

1) Which tail shaft housing is correct for a 62 Corvette? The T10 7-B or the T10 7-D?

2) If one of these tail shaft housings is correct for my 62, what would the other be correct for?
