Default Rear Axle

While getting my `58 chassis ready for the body back on after
paint, I had my rear tires off the ground so I could run the
drive train and make sure everything runs smooth, The right
wheel wobbled, so I thought the wheel was bent. Changed the
wheels and the right still wobbled. took the wheel and drum off
and indicated the axle to find it was running out.
Does anyone know where I can get a good right axle?
I posted on the parts forum with no luck. Anyone have
any thoughts?
Thanks
Tony

first, is the axle itself bent, of is it face runout on the flange that the studs go through? if the axle itself is not bent, and it a a small amount of face runout, (don't ask me to define 'small'...), then i would take it a machine shop and have it dressed up in relationship to the rotating center of the axle.

I would rather sell as a set, i don't want to get rich, but don't want to give them away at 10 cents on the $.

If someone can offer a suggestion as to a normal price from a typical vendor like Paragon, or such, i could discount that significantly.

I have some early axles off tri 5`s I could trade or buy outright.
I was told these `58-`62 axles are plentiful, If you know where
I can get one new or used, please let me know.
Thanks

Is this what you need? RH axle, $90.

I have NO idea if this axle is correct or not for your application.

Nope, I simply went to e-bay and entered the following search string:

(58, 59, 60, 61, 62, 1958, 1959, 1960, 1961, 1962) (corvette, vette) axle*

There were several places selling axles, this was the only listing selling a single RH axle.

They do have a good feedback rating given the huge number of transactions though.

I've replied to this same/similar issue multiple times before, and I'm almost hesitant to do it again, but I will for those who are either not aware of previous times I've explained this, or, won't use the search.

The 57 PASSENGER cars with a NON-posi rear and the 58 passenger cars use EXACTLY the same axles (both L&R) as 57 Vettes WITHOUT posi and ALLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL 58-62 Vettes (posi or NON-posi, doesn't matter).
ANYTHING, ANYTHING, ANYTHING for a Corvette is going to be priced 10 times higher than it will be for a passenger car. Thus, axles from a 57 pass car without posi and ANY 58 pass car axle will interchange with a 58-62 Vette axle----------------------------AND BE TONS CHEAPER!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WHAT PART OF THAT IS SOOOOOOOOOOO DIFFICULT TO UNDERSTAND??????????

Now, for the difference in 57 axles.
The 57 Vette AND 57 pass car axles came in TWO, repeat, TWO lengths----------------AND THIS ONLY APPLIED TO 57 MODELS.
There was a pair of axles for NON-posi 57 rears, and a different pair of axles for 57 rears with posi (again, pass cars or Vettes, doesn't matter). The 57 posi axles were 1/8in shorter than the 57 non-posi axles. PEOPLE IN THE KNOW, WHO ADDED A POSI TO THEIR ORIGINAL NON-POSI 57 REAR SIMPLY NEEDED TO CUT OFF 1/8IN FROM THE ENDS OF EACH AXLE. That's all there is to it, to simple.
Now, beginning with the 58 models, the axles got a 1/8in thicker axle bearing which moved the axle away from the centerline by 1/8in. Installing the thicker 58-later bearing to a NON-posi 57 axle will NOT WORK, because the end of a 57 axle tube (posi or non-posi axle housing does not have that additional 1/8in for the wider bearing.
Sooooooooooooo, bottom line, the cheapest, and lowest demand axles for ANY 58-62 Corvette are those from a 58 passenger sitting out in a field rusting away.
