Borgeson power steering conversion
Well my list of projects has grown while I have the motor out. A friend has done the conversion and I drove his car and wow what a difference between it and my factory power steering setup. The normal vendors have them for any where from $800-1000 depending on what your current setup is. Well I found a site call Mudflaps.com and they sell the same kits but at $650 for the kit I'm looking at getting. Has anyone ever used this vendor? Thanks.

Dave,
What is the exact parts list? When I did my conversion I mounted everything on the engine while on the stand. I needed to tweak a couple of things, especially the pulley alignment. After that, it's been great.

Dave,
The Borgeson unit is a nice upgrade and I love the feel of the steering too. I was impressed. Keep me informed on what you decide to do.

I already have power steering so I am not to worried about the pulley alignment as I did not have a problem before. The kit from the Corvette vendors is about $800 where at the site I'm talking about it's $652 that is quite a bit of margin.

Use the U-Joint coupler in place of a rag joint and you have a direct connection.

6t6t7,
I just looked at mine and I don't see a ground strap. My horns still work. Don't ask me how or why. Just don't know! Dennis

Dave I can't shed any light on the company you are talking about purchasing your kit from but I would make a while you are at it suggestion.
I would suggest pulling your upper a frames and slotting the cross shafts about 5/16 inch so you can dial in 4 to 5 degrees positive caster.
I just wish there were kits around back when I put my jeep boxes on.

I have my Borgeson stuff ready to install.
Are most of you removing the the steering shaft to cut it?
What are you using to cut it?
Same question if you are doing it still in the car.
To the OP, sorry to jump in on your post, but I did not want to start a new one just to find this out. (plus it might help you out)

Jegs has it as well. They will price match if you provide a link to the other site.

Yeah, the Borgeson conversion is a nice piece of work. Too bad Flaming River doesn't still make the 12:1 ratio replacement box they did about 10 years ago. That and the factory PS system would have put you in exactly the same place as the Borgeson system without the need to cut the column, etc.

The Borgeson is VERY nice. Had it on my car for a couple of years now. No issues.

Curious,
Those of you who have converted from manual to the Borgeson, are you still limited in doing this if you have the 5 quart pan vs. 4 quart pan required for the stock power steering setup? In other words, do you still need to lose the 5 quart pan with this conversion?

It should clear a lot better. There is no ram assy under the pan. Just the regular drag link so it will clear anything.
