Default rack & pinion options...who's would you buy

I'm going to install a R&P system. Several vendors to choose from:

Flaming River
VB&P
Van Steel

any suggestions?

VB&P is cheapest cost, even before 15% off special.

Also, any suggestions on Hyrdo Boost conversions?

I have the Steeroids R&P on mine and it works very well:

I have looked at all the options and the Borgeson pump / box setup seems to be the best choice.

R&P will eliminate a couple of extra steering joints and will give a more positive feel.

Bill which joints will it eliminate? From all that I have seen it will add steering joints.

i guess i wasn't counting the joints that might be necessary for the steering shaft, just the inner tierod ones, the drag link and idler arms.

I agree with David.I've had both(r&p and Borgeson), and Borgeson is the best.

Bill have you experienced the reduced turning radius that occurs with Steeroids setup?

My Borgeson has only one rag joint similar to the stock box, Anytime you have a hard link connecting one side to the other there is transfer in road feel from side to side. The Borgeson eliminates this. Thus it improves the handling and also has superior steering. I would say it probably costs less then a R/P and is less hassle to install. The performance is excellent. it's not a Steeroids, it is a Tbird power R&P in a TCI IFS. there are 2 joints in the steering column and the 2 outer tierod ends (the inners are ball and socket at the end of the rack); there is no slop and there is no harsh road feel.

i've never thought to check the turning radius, but the wheels will turn far enough for the tire to hit the inner fender panels.

Some rack and pinion set ups suffer from bump steer. Power box keeps orginal steering geomontry.

true... if it has 'bump steer' then it is not designed properly.

They have sleeves to reduce bump steer.

I put the Steeroids R&P setup on my 66 back in 05. I had to put a pressure reducer on the pump (stock GM PS pump has to high a pressure for the Ford rack) to fix how touchy it was. I know they have pumps that are already reduced for this, but I had a very nice chrome one I was putting on. The reducer just screwed into the back of the PS pump on the high side. I currently have everything sitting in the garage to install the Borgeson setup on my 65.
I have read some really good threads on this system. I even read that one of the Forum members used an adjustable inline valve to set the steering effort to a custom level. I might look into this if I do not like the way the Borgeson feels stock.
