front bumpers
How can I tell if my front bumpers are original ? They have some scratches and rust and I'm going to get them re-chromed if they are original .
I don't see any numbers or marks on them.
It's a 1966 .

If they fit nice, level across the front and bolt up without distorting the side fiberglass, and don't have waves on the top surfaces, my guess they are original. Otherwise I have no knowledge of other indicators. Dennis

If they fit, they're likely originals.
Let me relate a story............
Back in the 70's, I drilled a 1/2" hole under the drivers side front bumper to mount a fog light. It was all the rage back then.
Fast forward to the early 2000's....I was accumulating parts as I was planning to have my car painted and a bunch of stuff rechromed...
I bought a NICE bumper core at Carlisle, planning to use it instead of repairing the one I drilled the hole through.
I've been to the rodeo a few times, so I took my original off and trial-fitted the Carlisle bumper core before sending it to the plater.
Fit like boots on a rooster. Looked great...wasn't "tweaked", etc., but it wouldn't fit properly. My car had never been hit either, so that wasn't the issue.
I welded up the hole in my original, and had it plated with the rest of my things.
The moral to the story... If it fits, use it, rechrome it, etc.
