obviously, not all the paint was stripped on the drivers side. I also got a nice aux. top and 2 hoods. I gave 12,500. also comes with new door panels, recovered seats, new emblems and some other misc. parts. think I done ok?

Guessing from the tach, it possibly was a 365 hp car. I don't know when the 396 started, but I think it was over vin 113000. Somebody else here will know. What are your intentions, restore? Build driver? Modern upgrades?

since I don't have the original motor im not sure. the car doesn't have ps/pb. im 36 and have been driving BMWs for years. hard to see that id get a lot of enjoyment from a non ps/pb car, however ive never driven one. I was considering a modern drivetrain, but if the car is a 365 car and the trans and rear are original, I should restore it to original spec. I have what were said to be the original heads and intake only need a date correct and coded block.. what would you do? id like to drive it in the next couple years either way.. I have 20-25 k to throw at it and am capable of doing most of the work myself.. how far will that really get me if I were to go NCRS spec?

Sorry, I'm not the right person to advise on that. Many members here have restored cars, I'll let them share their knowledge and experience with you. You may have more in it than you expect. Paint and body work alone can take a large chunk of that cash. I wish you luck though.

when you say you have a date correct block who told you that and are you sure about that.
have you ever drove a old car before with no power assists? they are not as bad as everyone makes it out to be. if you do not have the correct stamped block I would not do it as NCRS. you can restore the car as close as stock as possible but at the end of the day its just a NOM car. in order to have a running driving car either restored stock or modified you are going to need more then 25K for what I see there

The car was probably a 327/365hp. The Muncie trans tag 3857579 indicates a close ratio used with that 327/365 engine with 3;70 or 4:11 rear. That also would work with the 80lb oil guage and 6500 red line tack

im only 12k into the car and it did come with quite a few extras and usable parts. at the end of the day, for me, its all about driving and having fun. not my first project car

If you never drive one what made you get a project such as this. When you first looked at it what did you want as a end result.

At this point you could fairly easily add p/s, pb. Depending on what you want to end up with, you can probably get a pretty reasonable crate motor or 350. As stated, I guess you need to decide now what you want to end up with. Being able to do your own paint work should be a big plus.

it to be mine! now that it is, I have some decisions to make.
id like to have the classic look of the car with ps/pb and feul injection. nothing crazy. something I can jump in and drive 500 miles in relative comfort

I think it will be a great fun project to tinker around with! I would get it as close to stock as possible, what with all those parts that have come with it. I would reuse as many of the parts as possible and buy correct ones as needed.
If it had been missing a lot of the car or had come with flares and what not, then it would be better to restomod.
Either way, I understand why you bought it, especially with your background! I think that was a fair price. You will save a lot when you do much of the work yourself. Have fun with it!

I'm excited for you. You might check with jerhofer here on the forum. He's rebuilding a 64 from ground up and doing almost all the work and doing a great job. He has documented everything with pictures. Read his thread and see what ideas you get.

thanks guys. my dad always wanted to go original.. we have had a turbulent relationship for a # of years. not long after he agreed to sell me the car my mom was diagnosed with late stage oral cancer and just underwent a pretty horrific surgical procedure and starts rad/chemo next week... anyway, its changed things for the two of us. itd certainly be nice to make him proud.

Looks like you are off to a good start. You can do a bunch of work yourself to save big $$. Take your time, the right decisions will come. Take care of your Mom, keep building the relationship with your Father, both of those are far more important than the car. Good luck!
