Default Trailing Arm Buildup Debacle

So I got my trailing arms all built up and looking factory fresh and ready to install, popped them in and shimmed up both sides than installed the half shafts. Looking good, next is to install the strut rods and shocks. It was at this point I had my oh crap moment at 9PM last night, I installed the bearing housings on the wrong side.

I am so oh so mad at myself for doing this because this is not my first rodeo, I have built up at least 3-4 sets over the last several years. I knew there was a LH and RH housing but for some unknown reason never gave it a second thought when I built this set up. Guess it was one of those can’t see the forest for the trees moment.

Day and a half of good labor in the garage blown on a stupid mistake, now the disassembly and teardown process begins. At least all the parts are clean and will come apart easy.

Dennis,
Look at the bright side:

Nobody got hurt
No money will be spent to rework the arms
More quality time refining your assembly techniques.

Happy new year...

Default Trailing Arms

Dont feel bad, you are not the first one. I did it in front of a customer once. I was so proud as to how the assembly and backlash set up perfectly. .001 on one side and .002 on the other. Then, while the customer was watching, I installed the trailing arms and went to put the shock mounts in and oh boy.......housings reversed!!!

I know how you feel. I was so mad at myself! But I tell you I did it the second time in half of what it initially took!

Dont stress, its your own car, It will be better in the New Year!

If it was your first one, it probably wouldn't have happened. It's when you've done something a bunch of times, you start to not think about it or pay as much attention. (Hope my eyeball doctor isn't reading this . . . he's doing cataract surgery on me in a couple of weeks and he's, allegedly, done thousands of them. )

Anyway, it's an excuse to have more beer.
