Default Build Date for a 1965

After pulling the stock 327 from my 65 vette for a rebuild I found out the pistons were already .60 over. I took it to a reputable local machine shop and found that in some places it was as high as .90 over, and there was already a sleeve in one of the chambers.

I am now searching for a stock replacement for the car with a build date as close to original as possible. Does anyone know how to determine the exact build date based off of this trim code? Cast number was 3782870.
Trim tag reads: H26 Detroit
Style 19 467|A-4521 Body
Trim STD | C-C Paint

vin: 194675S114124

C-C is the code for Ermine White. Still trying to figure out as much about this car as possible, i.e.-interior color, original engine hp, etc. Any help will be much appreciated.

H26 is the date that is the the 26 day of march
style 19467 is a vert
a-4521 means the body was made at the A.O. smith plant
trm STD means black vinyl
C-C is Ermine White

well, you are in the process of trying to locate an engine block that was cast on a day that is appropriate for your car, correct?

this is somewhat unrelated to the body build date. It IS directly related to the car's "birthday" - when it rolled off of the assembly line. Stingrayl76 has done the work for you there, your car's "birthday" was April 2, 1965. You want an engine block that was cast before this date, perhaps 1 - 4 weeks before this date if you are aiming for what is typically observed.

PS your 65 is quite close to mine - production number 114316

I agree...if the engine you have is the original engine to your car I would have it built anyway you can to preserve it.

That trim tag decoder is really cool! Do you have one for C-1's?

Go to the c1 registry. You'll find most of this info there.

I should emphisize MOST, not all, since the c1's never had a trim code, of course. You can find the build date, though.

Just had the same experience with my 64. Fairly expensive but easier than looking for the perfect block and having it shipped then rebuilt.

I checked my vin # last 5 digits 00105 which is an early build being August 1964 and it would indicate it was built on 8/4/64 but only 227 were built that month and the birthdate decoder/calculator provided by Black Magic in Forum above shows these cars were only built in the early 4 days or so of August............what happened to the remainder of the month? I was always under the impression that mine was built 8/26/64 until now but the trim tag is gone.......... is there any way to be absolutely sure as I'm having a new trim tag made and I want it right? Also how do i determine the body # be A or S and the number that follows? Any connection with vin # that you're aware of? Any & ALL help is much appreciated!!!

Well there's the kiss of death. Save your money and avoid having the car branded as counterfeit.

just don't have one made. all it does is cause trouble and put the car in question. the car will never be able to be judged with the tag. so if that is your goal then find anther place to spend your money
