Default '58 ameter wiring question

I'm wiring up the gauge cluster today and have been referencing my teardown pics and the Lectric Limited wiring diagram and have installed the suggested fuse points from other posts. I have a couple questions regarding the "fuse?" shown in the pics... what is it ? Should I put it back in? Also I would like to verify that the black wire noted is the correct placement of the harness ground at the cluster.
Thank you!
Kurt

Kurt, that is not a "fuse" it's actually a static suppressor for the radio.
Unless you care about looks or want to get the car judged, I would eliminate it and just save it in case someone wants it in the future. Functionally, it can do a lot more harm than good if it goes bad. Also, the newer radios don't need it. B/T/W, it's not connected correctly in your photos Pilot Dan

ps black wire is ground

Its a noise-suppression capacitor and, if original, probably long since ceased to function. These things do not age gracefully and leak after a few decades. And, as stated, they helped with AM radios but FM doesn't benefit from these devices. I believe your ground wire in the picture is the one that should be connected next to the speedometer as shown. I don't see any fusing at the ammeter so if you think you've installed one at this location, you haven't or else it's just not visible in the picture.

Thanks Frankie and Dan,
I am re-installing the original AM radio but i think I'll store the capacitor. BTW those are the before pictures so there was no fuse at that time. Thanks again!
Kurt
