Would also recommend you ask for good clear photos of trim tag and vin tag. Is this 66 a St. Louis car? The date he listed from the tag (May) relates to St. Louis tag lettering but without a picture, it could be AO Smith, and then there go the side pipes. So you need more information and better photos IMHO

66/68
Thanks for all your input, on the 66, the distributor is not correct and the alternator is not correct, it does have the emblem on the front of the hood (flag). On the 68 I've asked for a better picture of the engine pad stamp. As far as my experience, i've owned a 67 original 427/435 in the past, 62 original fuelie, 65 coupe......i've been around the block a little. Still working on someone to do a PPI for me. thanks

66 vs 68 purchase
Again thanks for your input! Still working on getting someone to do a PPI for me! The flag emblem is on the 66, the distributor is wrong (TI Ignition system...$$$1000.00 plus for correct one), Alternator is wrong! IT is a St. Louis car. Working on better pics of stamp pad on 68. As far as my background with C1 and C2's been around them for several years, had a 65 Coupe, 67 427/435, 62 fuelie.....mostly trying to check numbers on these cars with my restoration/technical books. Thanks

by the way, some bastard stole my 62`s valve covers on a recent violation of my warehouse {break in}......any good ones out there reasonably priced?
Al is currently looking for a set for me but hes an interior expert and not exactly a under hood specialist...Any one at the Old Town Florida meet could show him what I want....His interior trucks are there right now .....I don't want him to get the wrong ones......
thanks.

Restored #093 date coded with correct tag dizzy $1950 including correct cap, rotor and vacuum advance and this was last year. If you are missing TI harness, correct coil and amp, oh boy...

68 gone
Well so much for the 68, I just received an email from the seller, it sold! Which is ok, I'm leaning more towards the 66 anyhow! The 66 is a St Louis car S6667. It's amazing on how expensive some of these restoration parts can be! It's always better to buy one that has been restored and let someone else spend the big bucks and save you hopefully the hassles and cost!

67 BB cars had the plug wire shielding attached to the valve covers. Not sure what happened when the 68 cars came out - never thought to check - I suspect same as the 67.

On the 66 car he lists the transmission as a M-20 wide ratio. To the best of my knowledge that wasn't offered with the 427/425 motor (however it makes a nice combination). No telling if he really knows whats in the car or not. There's not much way to tell for sure without removing it. He doesn't say the car's VIN is stamped on the case. Probably not the original trans.

That would be interesting to know more about. My originally 427/425 has a 66 M-20 in it but it's not stamped with my VIN and that leaves me pretty certain it was swapped in some time in it's sorted past.

Did anyone notice that it has a California Black Plate on it? Would ask how long he has owned the car. He may be telling you just what he was told when he purchased the car.

Devil is in the details & terminology
First of all, "matching numbers" could, but does not necessarily mean "original drivetrain" - a night and day difference.
Then, ownership trail is one thing, but tank sticker, protecto-plate, bill of sale, etc, are the crucial components. Without a tank sticker, you have a completely different situation down the road.
Next, you have the acceptance/aesthetic valuation differences between C2 and C3, which are substatial. Difficult to objectively weigh the two different generations.
If you need someone who can validate the cars, drop me a note.
I own both types of cars.

No Tank Sticker on a 66.
