Default Driver????

I did a frame off resto on my 60. I have put 25,000 miles on it since then. I have paintchips, cracks, and a not very pretty engine compartment. I take it to the hardware store, to get groceries, and I even take it to Wall Mart! I drive it in the rain, once & a while, on a short gravel road,I get the same comments....what happens if you wreck it or hit a deere? It happens, it happens....so be it. I've had it 40 years now, drive it ever chance I get. That's my interpatation.

I drive mine every where. It looks best about 50 feet away at 50 miles an hour but I LOVE it !!!

Jackfit's '66 probably exemplifies the quintessential definition of what a "driver" is.

"Driver" is another one of the most misused terms in the hobby I guess. Like when a customer tells his painter he wants a "driver" paint job. What he really means is that he wants a flawless, show car paint job for 1/2 of what it really costs.

Looking at that load of groceries you carry around, I can certainly understand why you have a C1 and not a C2 .

There are cars that should never be on the road; that should be hanging from your living room, like art...everything else is a "driver."

Yeah C1s DO have trunks. I've carried swimming pool salt and cat litter in my '61. Just have to be careful how you position things and trunk lid clearance when closing up.

I think somebody has pictures of Jimmy Hoffa tied up and gagged in a C1 trunk somewhere.

The '62-only plastic tail light protective cones are also a good idea.

How many points did you lose for the repop springs that jacks the car up way too high?

Just curious.

Yup - that's the intention...it will be my new "driver".

Have to get it up in the air and rebush the Hurst shift linkage though. Its starting to hang up once in a while !

I restored my 60 by making sure every part that was installed was correct and new or looked new. I don't care about judging, however, I respect the reasoning and considered that the next owner, probably my kids, may considerer judging. I drive it. It's not what I consider a driver. A driver is a car that is in just good enough shape to drive and not considered show, restored, or even survivor.

Well we've been at both ends of the spectrum now. Show (or near show) cars with only a couple hundred miles a year put on them and now cars just good enough to drive but mechanically maintained without cosmetic appeal ?

I will stick with my own definition I guess which is somewhere in between.

That's the gist of it! It's one of those overused, misused generalities of automotive jargon. Other favorites are, "Original Miles", "Numbers Matching", "No Hit", "Restored", and let's not forget "Barn Find".

Me, I like to think of my '67 as "Drivable", regardless of how many miles it gets a year.

You know when I leave the house I don't go north or northeast! Drive that plug down to Bowling Green sometime where I can get a look at it! I'll bring some Q tips so you can give it a good cleaning when you get off the road.

The only time I have seen one of your cars is when you dragged it down to FL on a trailer, I figured it was broken.
