Default Radiator

I am looking for a replacement Radiator for my 1966 small block non A/C corvette. Everyone says Dewitt is the place to get one but when I contacted them they advised their replacement Radiator is two row and does not cool as well as the stock Radiator. What has been your experience and which company makes one that cools as well as the stock Radiator. Mine is a driver and does not need to meet any judging requirements.

You don't want their "replacement" radiator, you want their "Restoration" radiator which is as-factory-designed.

Best thing in the hobby ever. Looks identacle and works better than any brass copper or aftermarket quasi replacement.
Go with DeWitts. Best thing EVER.

You may not have gotten the full story, so let's review.
The stock radiator has a heat rejection rate of 4600 btu and you can get this one from our Classic line but our standard Direct Fit unit 1139063M is 4100 btu or 10% less. In most cases, this rating is fine and can cool a non-ac car. In fact, some people have used the replacement brass/copper units that only have about 3300 btu rating and got away with it. I don't recommend a 30% reduction, but 10% is hardly noticable. The only reason we even mention this is we want people to know exactly what they are gettting.
There is even another option, not mentioned yet. We now have the ability to build this Direct Fit with 1 1/4 tubes (1149063M) $625 and it has the same btu rating as the original unit.

DeWitts direct fit radiators cool just fine. I have used many over the years. I have them in two of my cars now. One in my 66 SB car and one in my blown SB 62. The restoration radiators are works of art but not needed if you are not worried about orig. look or judging.

Do not buy Be Cool. The fit and finish can not hold candle to DeWitts.

Default Radiator

I appreciate all of the replies and thanks to Dewitt for further explaining my options. I do want a quality radiator that cools appropriately. Having said that I wish Dewitt would have some sales in the near future to make my decision easier.

You get what you pay for................the DeWitt reproduction radiator will probably last your lifetime if you care for it properly. I still have the original aluminum radiator in my 1967 since I take care of it (46 years).

I told Tom many years ago at Bloomington that when my original radiator goes I will install one of this reproduction radiators. I may just have to buy one this year and put it away to keep my promise.

PS: Tom does run sales occasionally......I think you just missed it.

You might want to keep an eye on Willcox Corvette. Ernie runs specials on here regularly, and his 10% or 15% off forum specials include all Dewitts radiators. I just bought one for my LS3 restomod, on his last 15% off deal. Tom has to keep his dealers happy, and if he regularly discounted his radiators direct, his dealers would not be very happy. That being said, there are several dealers that you can buy the radiators from at a discount. I use Willcox, because of the great service, good pricing, and I just like Ernie to boot!

Default radiator

I will contact Willcox to see if they can supply DeWitts part number 1149063M. I contacted Zip products since I have done business with them many times, but they haven't replied. Based on all of the information supplied by DeWitts that is the Radiator I want to go with for proper cooling. I can't justify the cost for the one that is a duplicate of the OEM.

Apparently you can't purchase the DeWitt 1149063M with the 4600 btu rating from Distributors, only the 1139063M is available with the 4100 btu rating. Apparently I am not literate enough to be able to purchase it on the DeWitt website; I could not find it. Well I don't need it until spring anyway so I do have some time.

Sure you can, just call them and give them the part #. Just because it is not listed on their website, does not mean they can not get it. Ernie, did not have a listing for my LS retrofit radiator, but he could still get it.
