There are two problems with using the attached photo method.
1. It must be sized before attaching or it spreads all across the screen. There is a java app in CF that is supposed to resize it for viewing, but it doesn't always work. So sometimes, you see only the front fender of the entire car. And it makes the whole frame about two times the width of the monitor so all the text runs off to the right.
Ohiovet's example works, because the original photo is 640x480 in size. But many post theirs straight from the HD cameras with 1024x768 or larger and so you get this annoying monster sized picture.
2. An attached picture does not show up in the quote. That could be good or it could be bad, depending on if you have people quoting someone with 20 pictures in their message and the new message only references one or none of them.
The new CF method of simply pasting one in using the Picture icon button is by far the simplest and cleanest.

Here are 2 different size pictures one is 2.19 MB and the second one is35.0 KB.
I typically post low resolution pictures as it is quicker and some sites don't accept high res. pics.
Ignore the thermostat housing...

I agree that this should be the easiest, and works fine with pictures from my iphone, but my Nikon 7100, which takes pictures 4000 x 3000 doesn't seem to work. I just get a message - "Warning - Couldn't add image". While the file size is large (13.6Mb), I would assume that there is either an automatic re-sizing or an option to do so, but it doesn't seem so.

You can, use this button and forget photobucket or tinypic or any others. This button only requires to select "browse" and "insert".

Currently, I think the best 2 ways to insert pictures are the one described by 65GGvert above, which is clicking on the "insert image" icon and then browsing your own computer, or, clicking on the "paperclip" icon and doing the same.
Keep in mind that different devices and different browsers work better or worse and you may have to figure out which is best for you in a given situation.
Also, while photobucket still works, some people are having trouble with their changover to trying to get more premium subscribers. Some people are having trouble accessing their accounts while others can access existing photos, but cannot upload more. Tinypic continues to be a decent second-party host option to photobucket.
Still, these 4 options should presnt you with a reasonably easy way to post pics, once you get comfortable with the right option.

While this thread has served its purpose well, we have had to create a new one in light of Photobucket's decision to no longer offer free third party picture hosting for forums.
This thread is being unStickied and closed and will ride off into the sunset. There's too much here to just delete it!
