Default Is this car advertised correctly as "matching numbers" ?

This is a 1963 Coupe advertised on the Internet. The VIN number is listed as S107317.

The ad specifically says "The motor is matching number"

My question is.............if this were your car, would you advertise it as "matching number" ?

Since there's no two people that agree on a hard and fast definition of 'numbers matching', who's to say that the seller is wrong?

On the other hand, he posted a picture of his engine, not his motor. I suspect a scam from Nigeria.

Maybe he doesn't know any better?

That certainly doesn't resemble any 63 motor stamping.

Well, he is semantically truthful, in that the numbers do "match"....
As to whether it is an original to the car engine, that's a different question!

Buyer beware!

... the # are the same, but we all know the seller is a little , after all he has "split" in his user name.

Buyer Beware!

Default 2nd look.............

If you read the text of the write up in the Ebay ad, there is a really funny mistake. The seller says "..........that's a bad investment", talking about what it would take to finish the car. In the context of what was attempting to be said the word "not" was obviously left out!

Mistake, or Freudian slip.................?

Thanks............I agree with what all five of you Guys have said.

It seems like the term "matching numbers" has become so misused that it no longer has any valid meaning

Yup. Went out the window years ago with 'all original' and 'no-hit body'
