Default Hood release handle

Hi, my hood release handle separated from the cable inside the car is there anyway to fix that without buying a new setup? Thank you

You can try epoxy.

You can buy a repro handle... at least for 63's you can....

Those replacement handles have little Allen head set screws to hold it to the cable............ They're not like the original in that respect.

Not sure about other midyears.

The standard fix in the old days was to use a pair of vise grips. I think that epoxy and a set screw would look a little better. Also lube the cable to have it move easily.

JB Weld is a good material to use.
I'm not sure if 63 used a plastic or metal handle. If plastic I don't think a set screw would do much good.

It happened to mine last month. I used J B Weld and a small grub screw and taped a thread on the under side of the handle. Also I placed some notches on the shaft to aid it, once it set, so it wouldn't give way when set. Lubed the shaft too. Prep the handle and shaft before you stick it together. Then I let it dry before trying it. Works well now . Cheers Leigh

IIRC, it's diecast metal.

Chuck,

Thanks for the input.
I just checked my 65 Coupe and it also has the die cast hood release handle which looks the same as the one on my 62.
