In many respects, the Muncie is a better, stronger tranny (as pointed out by various others above). I'm not a metallurgical engineer, but I do understand that the 27spline tailshaft of the Muncie greately increases the strength of the shaft over the earlier 16spline tail shafts of GM trannys (whether it be 3sp, T10, PG, whatever), thus, a MUCH LESS tendancy to twist as do the T10 tail shafts.
Muncies have thicker, stronger gears with a higher nickel content (that increases the strength of a metal). There are a couple of things that can be done to improve gear engagement of a Muncie which cannot be done to a T10. Soooooooooooooooo, overall, yes, the Muncie is a better, stronger tranny over the T10.
Now, with all that said, if a person desires to replace a T10 with a Muncie (which I recommend), then the BETTER CHOICE is the 66-70 versions of a Muncie. BUT, the 63-65 Muncies can be rebuilt and improved for use as a fine, dependable daily driver tranny-------------------ALTHOUGH, try to avoid the 63 Muncie, it has some lesser desirable features.

I know about the peened over pin failing in the side cover that then drops the rooster combs into the gear box - that is correctable with a new pin and C-clip. (Which I've already done on my '63). Not sure what other shortcomings the '63 may have...
