Default Spray on Chrome Plating from Jay Leno

I thought some of you would find the spray on chrome plating process interesting and possibly be able to use it on some of your projects.

That is amazing to watch, I wonder how it would look on c1 or C2 bumpers? I wonder if once they were installed if you could tell without looking really closely?

I dunno....almost too good to be true...
I'd have to see it up close; but what a great deal if it works as advertised!

Wow, that could revolutionize the restoration business. My 56 hood bird looks just like that pitted one. Lot's of plated pot metal on old cars.

Checked their website and it is still under construction and in German. No place to order or anything.

I'm very interested to learn more about this.
I have a *LOT* of pitted chrome on my '61 to deal with.

I actually looked at buying a system from Alsa. This is a PAINT process, not plating. Probably OK for small parts, but wouldn't be good on something like bumpers. The materials to achieve this are VERY expensive, and it is HUGE work to get it to look good. Surfaces are prepped, primed and painted just like you would a car. You then must apply a very slick coat of gloss black, and buff it to a mirror finish. The "chrome" paint is then applied. After that is all washed off, you have to clear coat it, which takes away some of the chrome plating look. I did an intake cover for an LS6, and a couple of C1 female hood latches. They looked ok, but had a ton of time, and about the same money if I would have sent them out for plating. The intake started to fog (from the heat), after about 6 months. Cool idea, just not very practical for a car that you're going to drive.

Great info, thanks Mike. Good to hear from someone who actually tried it and put it to practical use.

Kinda what I figured or it'd be more prevalent in our hobby.

I don't think I would want to use it to represent real chrome parts, but would maybe look good as a dress up to a few items.

I spent last winter in Moscow and walked past this butt ugly Porsche everyday, looks to be the same type of paint process.
