Default How to remove the drive shaft?

Replacing u-joints...help

Looks like a 64 from his profile..

Unbolt the shaft from the front and back yokes by removing the straps. Then slide the trans yoke forward and then separate the drive shaft from the front yoke. At this point you should be able to lower the front of the drive shaft for removal.

What I am wondering is if I have to remove the rear "mounting bracket" (as the AIM calls it) in front of the differential in order to get it out.

No it is not necessary to remove the snubber bracket. You can get to the u-joint nuts and remove the straps from the u-joint and then pull the drive shaft forward.

It helps to have the back wheels off the ground (as opposed to using a lift) to facilitate rotating the drive shaft in order find the "sweet spot" that allows the best access to the nuts.

Before sliding the yoke forward into the transmission make sure its debris free and nothing on it that could tear the rear seal. Other then that......"what they said"
