Default 58 - Question on hood release

Hello -

I am test fitting my hood (to the body) before I paint it and I put on the male/female hood latches. I tied some string to the latches so I can pull the latches open from below the car...mind you the car is gutted at this time.
The only time the hood will fully release is if I pull both strings at the same time...is this normal?
While adjusting the hinges, I was able to pull just the drivers side and that side would pop up...but after making some adjustments, I have to pull both strings at the same time for the hood to release.
Is this normal or should each side release independently?

I understand that....I was just wondering if you have it adjusted right if each side should pop-up independently if released in iindependently.

Do you have the spring cable connected to the female latches so once you pull on the drivers side it activates the other one

That's a midyear thing.

Nah, they have 2 separate cables originating at the hood release handle. Each cable runs to it's own female hood latch. The two latches thus operate completely independently of each other, but dependent upon the hood release handle.

I don't have my cable connected up. I just have some string connected to the lever and running down to the ground...so I couldn't pull each string at the same time by myself. I would pull the string for the drivers side female latch and the hood would pop up, but for the life of me I couldn't get the passenger side to do the same thing.
However if I have someone help me and we pull the strings on the count of 3...the hood pops right up and works fine.
Some may think....then what's the problem, cause you will release them at the same time when you put the cable in. I was just curious if they should pop up independently if you released each one independently. Most people probably haven't tried this.
I emailed Mike Coletta before I started this post and he said it was normal.
