Default Oil Capacity - SHP 327/340

According to the manual, the capacity when changing the oil with a filter change is 6qts. As I understand it in reading through the archives, this means that the oil pan is 5 qts and the filter is 1 qt. (5+1).

When I changed it (due to fuel pump issues, oil smelled like fuel), I used a ACD PF25 and proceeded to fill it with about 1/2 at of Shell Rotella 15w-40 and then put it on. I then put the rest of the qt in and then another 5 qts....for a total of 6 qts.

After taking a reading on the dipstick (I believe I have the original...19 and 3/16 from the bottom of the rubber stop on the stick to the Full tickmark, also has an M stamped up near the 2 rivets), the reading is over the full tickmark, even past the word FULL by a little bit.

Should I drain some oil so it measures to the Full tickmark? Or will it measure to the full tickmark once the engine runs and has a chance to cycle all the oil through the filter/gallies, etc. and rest back in the pan?

I'm not sure if the PF25 can hold a full quart or not, which means there could be too much oil in the pan. Could this be an issue?

Definitely run it first. Wait a few minutes after shut down and then check the oil. It should be right near or at the full mark. It will always show high before you start it and run it through to fill the filter completely.
