As a newbie... would it be a crime to add a Right Hand side rear view mirror on my C2? I use mine as a driver and it will never be judged...but I don't want to violate any Midyear Rules...just yet. Thanks

I think someone once said it was a dealer install option..so some do have it on their cars...its better to be safe than not.

Just a note...My car is 1965 coupe and I have a 1967 big block hood with 1967 bolt on alloys with redline tires....so I'm not going the NCR route...lol. BUT...I do want opinions on the R/H side mirror.

Those add ons you done simply bolt on and can be changed back very easy. You mount a mirror on the door you need to drill two holes. Not so easy to change back if you don't like it

IMHO it is more symmetrical with the R/H mirror, if you do it, make sure you move it back about 2" than the L/H side so you can see past the vent window. Just tape it place and see how you like the look, if not, don't install it.

Well, MINE is gonna get one! I'm currently working on these vintage Hella Bullet Mirrors - VERY hard to find! They're nice because they have lateral adjustment. I'll be putting a convex glass in BOTH the passenger AND the driver side, as virtually ALL cars in Europe are set up. I think after driving for 40 years that I've broken the "Objects In Mirror Are Closer Than They Appear" code:


So ya' put a couple extra holes in the fiberglass; small price to pay to be able to see what's going on around you, IMHO...

Thank you for all the input guys! It appears that there is a very mixed opinion on the R/H Mirror issue among you enthusiasts. I guess I am going to have the kick it around. I use my R/H mirror in all my other cars including my 1969 Camaro... it is very useful for parallel parking or when I back into my garage. Thank you Scott for the tip on moving the R/H mirror back a couple of inches. I'll drive my Stingray for a few weeks (it's still in the paint shop) before I decide what to do. During my current restoration...I even had to relocate my L/H mirror due to a prior owner mislocating it.... hum..

I think you'll quickly get used to not having the right mirror. I thought I would miss having one when I bought my '66, but I really haven't missed it at all. Give it a try for a while and you can still add one anytime you feel like it...

I've owned my '60 since 1983 and it only has the driver side mirror. I've often thought about adding the passenger mirror. It's your car, do what you thinks best... If it gives you peace of mind then put on the mirror...

I just put those on my 67 coupe. They look great but functionality wise, not so great. They don't stick up high enough to see over the rear fender hump.

You'll find two things. One, as noted the vent window makes positioning it to see around the vent frame tricky. Two, the stock small round mirror viewed from across the car only shows a very small area and may give you a false sense of security about moving over. You can't adjust it from the driver's seat, so positioning is difficult to get right. It looks fine on the car and most people would never notice the difference. Many times I've wished I had one on a busy interstate when I wanted to move over quickly to exit. The coupe blind spot makes it difficult to just turn your head and look.

I'm ok with it while driving because the top is never up so I have a great field of view. Backing up though I miss it. I like to back into the garage and I don't really like flying blind in that situation.

As far as the look goes, one mirror or two, makes no difference. Cut the fenders out and you destroy the lines. Add a mirror, no problem.

a friend wrecked his then new 300ZX
had a RH mirror
car in blind spot BANG.
but RHM was adjusted to rear view, not blind spot.
so have kid stand in blind spot and adj so you see him.
it won't view straight back
but will avoid BANG.
Did this on my 72. One day in heavy triffic i went to change lanes, and to my surprise there was a car hiding there, easily seen in RHM.

A picture is worth a Thousand words. I installed a Right Side Mirror Forty years ago and haven't regretted it ever. And as has been pointed out, the car has a more balanced appearance. Al W.
