Default rear axl leak. Wanted to make sure I have the right fluids???? 1959 vette

Hello,

My rear axl has a leak and I was going to refill it and try to fix it this weekend.

I just wanted to make sure I had the right fluids so I don't mess anything up.

First, Is there a difference between gear lube & gear oil. The manual says gear lube.

This is what I bought from NAPPA. They were not to familiar with 59 Vettes but they said this would work. I want to know for sure I am putting the right stuff in.

I bought:

Valvoline High Performance Gear Oil SAE 80W-90. Limited Slip

&

Trans-X Positrac Limited Slip Gear Oil Additive GM#1052358.

Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.

Dean

PS I didn't know if I had Posi trac or not but a few people has said it would not hurt anything to put the Posi-trac Gear Oil Additive with the regular gear oil.

With the wheels off the ground, turn one wheel by hand, if the other spins the same way (not the opposite direction)
it's got a posi, or limited slip.
The oil is fine, but I don't know about putting posi additive in an open diff.

if the test above determines it to be positraction, use the additive; if not, return it for a refund.
adding the additive to a non positraction rearend will not cause any harm, but why waste the $$$
