Default Need a picture Deck lid 1965

Hi Guys/Girls, I need a picture of a 1965 deck lid hardware. I'm reassembling after some paint work and need reference photo of hardware on area nearest door. I have an idea what goes there, but want to make sure. I'm also looking at the AIM. Picture give me a better prospective. Thx Chuck

Everything on the underside of the convertible deck lid was installed in the Body Shop, prior to paint, and the underside of the lid and all the lid release hardware was sprayed body color.

Sully, here's a couple for you. First the latch and second the catch. Sorry I didn't get better pics when I tore it apart but you should get the idea. Bill

Thanks Bill, I'm looking for the stainless trim pieces (bolt/screw)actually attached to the deck lid. A round threaded bolt. It would fill or cover the holes shown in my first picture. I should have taken a picture of that stainless bolt. Can you believe I'm sending this at 4:02 am. The things that keep us up! Or is it just old age? Thx, Sully

It looks like someone drilled an extra hole for the side mounting location.

Ya Sully the hole on each side (as Critter said there should not be 2) is for mounting a hardtop. Here is the hardware that you need (after you fill one of them). All the usual suppliers sell this kit for $12-15, usually called a Hard Top Mounting Kit. Bill

I have the hardware, maybe I never noticed the second hole when I dissembled. On one side it is mostly covered by the one bolt, no so much the other side. What would be the best way to fill at this point? I just had the deck lid painted? Thx, Sully

Sully, do you have 2 large holes like that on either side of your deck lid?

1st question: do you have a hard top?

If yes, and it was me, I'd be fiberglassing those extra holes in, and then you'll have to repaint. The hole to leave is the one (probably the foward-most one in your pic) which is 2" from the front edge of the panel to the center of the hole. See my 66 deck lid.

If no, I'd be filling them all in and repaint.

Good luck with the repair. Cheers, Bill

I do have two holes on each side, what ever possessed them to do that is beyond me. One set is 2" (center of hole) from the end of the lid and the other is 2 & 1/2 " from the lid. No, I don't have a hardtop and won't be getting one. Thx, Chuck

Well Chuck if your not going with a hardtop and filling those holes on each side, since you'll need to repaint the deck lid, I'd also fill the 2 holes (~ 1/2" in dia) in the top, rear surface of the deck lid to which are also used to hold the hardtop down. Cheers, Bill

Hi Bill, I think I'll keep the hardtop hold downs on the lid. That's what it came with. I did fill the EXTRA holes on the lid near the doors. Turned out pretty well. Last nights adventure. pics to follow!
