I read a recent article in "Old Cars Weekly News & Marketplace" by one of their regular automotive engineers that suggested a few ounces of Marvel Mystery Oil in the gas tank to lubricate and clean carbs on older cars. I have heard the same from other old car owners.
It won't hurt. Mr. D may say it is snake oil and he may be right.

None of those carb cleaners will hurt the soft parts in the carb. I do on rare occasions run some Lucas injector/carb treatment in my classics. Can't say it makes a huge difference in the cars but it sure helps out my seldom used, fuel injected jet ski when it starts acting poorly.

A couple tanks of Super Shell gasoline always worked for me in the old days. I still use it today if at all possible.

It's not going to fix a tired carb or rusty gas tank. If you have issues, pull the carb and give it a proper overhaul if it has not been serviced in a while, thats the way to go. Pilot Dan

Thanks for all the info. I was having a problem with the engine bogging so I am having the carb rebuilt. I was thinking that the carb cleaner would be a good preventive move.
