how much should I pay to fix the rear end leak 1959 Corvette
Hello,
My rear end for my 1959 Corvette is leaking, not terribly, but its about time to take it in to get looked at. More than likely the gasket needs to be replaced.
So the question I have is:
How much should a pay for someone to replace that gasket in the rear end.
I know the gasket won't cost much, it will be the labor.
If anyone know what should I expect, it would be much appreciated if you would let me know.
Thanks in advance,
Dean

I did mine myself it wasn't all that bad at all, but along the way found some other problems...
the rear pinion flange needed a sleeve and also replaced the axle bearings and gaskets.

Ok cool, so it sounds like I can wait for the car as opposed to leaving a car overnight anywhere. I am afraid of doing that. Sounds like someone can fix it in two to three hours. Dean

Assuming the rear axle bearings don't need to be replaced, also.
There is a good chance those will start leaking once the axles are removed from the housing if they aren't replaced , if they are of any significant age.

All good advice. If you leave your car anywhere overnight make sure they secure it indoors. Most shops will just because of the nature of these cars but never hurts to ask.

I offered to help him out and he declined. My 6car garage is ATTACHED to the house and has a security alarm. So if it had to stay overnight, it would be right in the middle of my 56 Vette, Chevelle conv, T-bucket and Cutlass.
MOST LIKELY there are few to none in the Edmond area who are as intimately familiar with these old Vettes/Chevys as I am.

If DZAUTO offered to help, you're crazy for declining! Tom is one the most experienced and knowledgable guys on this forum. Do yourself a favor...call him and get some expert help...don't forget to take some beer along!

You won't find a better person than Tom ( DZAUTO ) to work on your car, period. Like previously stated do yourself a favor and get in touch with him.

If I lived any where close to Edmond, I would be Toms best buddy ,and he would be working on my car, rather than me, if it required to any type of suspension or mechanical work.

And some of this time is not time involved in labor, but do you really want dirty cruddy parts put back on, or would you rather have then solvent washed, and painted and let dry over night, so they go back on clean and nice looking? Not to mention, having to source any parts that may be needed?

If Tom Parsons offered to help me out and I lived within driving distance I'd tear up the asphalt getting to his shop.
Hell, you'll learn more about old Chevys standing around with him BS'ing while he works on your car than you'll get out of weeks of surfing the Internet.

You, obviously, don't know Tom Parsons that well and if you read the OP's request, he was genuinely asking for help! Who better to provide that help than the "Man" himself who, by the way, would not have charged for brain surgery!
