Default What % of owners are CF members

Wondering what the percentage of Corvette owners are registered on the Corvette Forum (or at least the C1/C2 section). The following are some of the older Corvettes I see around and I wonder if I've ever chatted with one of you guys here online who are out there.

I was driving to the Livingston Mall in NJ yesterday and saw a beautiful red '63 SWC at a house along the way. There were other cars, but they might as well have not even there.

Sometimes I'm doing yard work (I'm 10 miles south of this one in a town near Summit) and I'll see a white '63 SWC, a laguna blue '65 convertible, and a medium blue '64 convertible pass my house. Well, first I hear them, then I see them.

There's a red '66 convertible somewhere in the neighborhood that I see around town while driving.

When I meet a new-to-me C2 owner, I'll usually ask them if they read the Forum and are they members, and its always surprising to me how few actually are members. Many times they've said they don't want to be "bothered" to read the Forum. I don't understand why.

Many, many folks lurk -- as guests or registered users and never, or rarely, post.
I've met a bunch of those types at various events...

About 1.56 million Corvettes have been built, and the Forum has about 210,000 members.

Not all Forum members own a Corvette, and many of us own more than one. Also, a good number of those 1.56 million Corvettes have been destroyed, but you should be able to formulate some kind of a reasonable percentage, from the numbers.

I think there are more people on the forum then we think , it's just that some people worry what they say might be taken the wrong way. I can imagine some of what I say or show can be stupid but do I care! vary little at my age ( been there and back with many clubs ) I hope every new member should know their welcome and 991/2 % of all members here are great people and are looking for nothing in return (only to help others)

I've wondered this. Let's say there are 15k operational or near operational c2 cars in the country. Just an estimate. About 2/3 of one of the 5 years production. Not a bad number. Out of 15,000 owners I recognize about 20 of you guys and know your mannerisms etc. I recognize perhaps 100 as "regular" people who post every so often. That includes c1 folks.

I don't think the people who register and go away forever afte a week or three count as members much.

Interesting question. Using the numbers in the Corvette Black Book, there were a total of 117,964 C2s produced. I'd be surprised if only 15,000 or so are left. My guess would be that maybe as many as 1/3 of the total production remains, say around 40,000 - but I have no real basis for saying that, just a gut level hunch.

I wonder if anyone has some hard data on that question?

The new forms of communication make it difficult to read feelings and emotions etc. into some comments. At times the best intentions are misread. MOST members are here for entertainment, and to learn about/from others past experiences. As we age we become less concerned about what others think.IMO. The idea is not to read into comments things that aren't there, and do not discuss politics/religion or topics that get some folks panties in a wad. This is a Corvette forum, and constantly has the best real time information available...from folks who have an affection for these cars, Some are grumpy if you push the wrong button on the right day.

I really enjoy this forum and takes up almost 100% of my reading pleasure. I have learned so much from this. I enjoy working on my car (when it comes out right!) and whatever project I undertake, I know I can get expert help from here if I get into trouble.
I don't know how we managed back before the Internet. Made a lot of mistakes for sure!

There are some here whose self-esteem seems to be tied to their Corvette Forum persona. Differing opinions or another approach to an issue or a good-natured jibe is seen as some sort of demeaning attack. I started at the bottom of my career and rose to the top; started out in poverty and now am quite well off. I don't have anything to prove to anybody and laugh at my mistakes and foibles every chance I get and if others join in so much the better...

Anyway, I'm betting a shockingly low number of classic vette owners are on the forum. I meet literally every week a C1/C2 owner whose never even heard of it

Before a few years ago, I had no idea CF existed. A net search for parts and how to fix something showed CF in the results. There are other general forums, but this one had the best comments.

What really convinced me to join was the many posters who worked at the GM plants. I thought that was cool. To actually read what's and how's from the very people is something wonderful. Then the comments from some very knowledgeable wrench turners and history buffs made it so I knew I'd be missing out if I didn't join and ask questions, or search the archives.

Otherwise, I'd still be searching the net wondering about basic stuff.

Still, I see Corvettes out there and wond r if they're here.

Think most people have lives and just arent into the web

Mentioned it to a few people over the yrs, one was responsive few said "Yeah I seen that place looks like a bunch of (insert insult)"
One said "I got a mechanic and no time for the web"

My dad doesn't like the online world. He prefers getting a donut and coffee at the local place and talking to the other regulars there. He's in his 70's now, and he grew up with the 1950's, 1960's cars and told me about the ones he bought for $50-$100. He used to brag that he could identify any fender of a car in a junk yard since he spent his childhood playing in the Philadelphia junkyards. To date, he's never been on any forum, though he's never owned a Corvette. He's a 1950's kind of guy.

I suppose there are lots of owners like that.

You can run into members when you least expect it.

I was at a show in Sarasota a few years back looking at some cars with the wife...some guy (who I didn't even know) in a crowd of guys hollered out loud, "hey....that looks like the Fink!"

Took some explaining I can tell you!
