Default '64 Coupe Resto-Mod W (409 Motor)

Here is the start of the tear-down a few months back. Currently working on testing picture uploads. Will be adding more soon.

Car had been wrecked twice on the front end, so we cut the front end off to make the removal of the motor easier.

WOW you guys don't mess around. cut the nose to pull the motor. !!!!! put a tilt nose back on it.

Yea it was for the shock factor. The front end was pieced together and is junk so out came the saws all! I have a new PM front end that Wayne Womble assembled. I have a lot of pics to post now that I have figured out how to post pics.

Here is a general list of what I am doing to the car:
New front end press molded
GTS rear quarters
67 Stinger hood
Vansteel offset rear trailing arms
440 cubic inch W motor (409) w/Hilborn fuel injection, Edelbrock heads custom hyd. roller cam, Billet specialties trutrack pulleys
Richmond super street 5 speed overdrive
I am machining 1 off pin drive knock off 17" wheels (no lug nuts) to look like 60's road race wheels 17x11 17x7
Factory looking side pipes (Larger dimpled pipe)
Ginger Ale Green (medium green w/ champagne stripe)
Chocolate and tan leather interior.

I have been collecting these parts for three years and now its time to put them all together. I am going to do all the labor myself along with a few super friends. I will work on it a little every day. I have been working on the tear down for 4 months now and will post more pics.

That's a LOT of motor to stuff in a 64. Are you sure you didn't check it for fit with a metric tape measure?

Did a fit check last month and I almost broke the shoe horn. LOL. It bolts right in with big block motor mounts. I had to notch out the front cross member. I have shorty headers that almost fit but one tube barely hits the new borgeson power steering. I have made prototype injection stacks and two are on the motor. I am going to machine new ones with wire mesh in them held in with brass rings in each barrel. Oh yeah I forgot to mention I own a machine shop and have a professional paint booth and have painted several cars over the past 25 years. The one thing I don't do is body work I leave that for my friend Todd Blicharz. The good thing is I don't have to wait on anybody but me and a few good friends. Please I am not bragging I'm just excited! I have never owned a hot rod I didn't have to drive while I was working on it.

You're going to draw some huge crowds at the shows with that 409 and Hilborn setup! Darn that's nice. Congratulations I always wondered if that W would fit in a mid year. That would have been nice if it were available in the early mid years. Great looking valve covers. Sorry, I didn't mean to hijack this thread, but here's my 409.

Nothing to itů.. it fits right in.

Good idea using the aluminum heads. that will save a ton of weight on the front end also.

I think that's the main reason for not using the 409 in the midyears ( the weight).

I think the 409 was actually lighter then the 396 by about 50 lbs. 650 vs 700

Next time I mock up the motor I will weigh it. We have a scale that attaches to our fork lift. Should weigh the same or real close to an iron head dual quad small block.

I just came over from the shop next door and there is a 409 sitting in a 64 Impala frame that has been all gone over. The 409 is really bad *** looking. It has the rough cast valve covers like a mid year Vette, but it is the wild shape 409. He said that this one has about 750 hp. He had the special custom made drive shaft sitting there. It's funny because he said that this is what I needed to put in my 67. Now, here you are actually putting one in a C2. Very cool.

i like it. people are making crazy hp with the w motor these days. new crank, rods, pistons.

The bird cage is almost rust free. I had to repair one small spot on the lower pass side. I painted an old hood to test the paint color. The green is Ginger Ale and the stripe is Champagne. The quarter panels are from GTS. They are about 1" wider but I am going to pull out to about 1.5" to 2". Next week I will put the doors back on and ask my buddy Todd to help me align them and then we will put the quarters on. I am going to put the doors on with new weather stripping to do the body work, then take them off to paint and install an other set after paint. I believe this will help the doors stay aligned. I am going to smooth the fire wall before we install the front end.

These are some motor pics from this winter. This is one of my other good friends Jeff. He is so good at building motors you would think he was a rocket scientist, well he is! He works on real rockets here in the Rocket city. He blue printed my motor helped me assemble it and degree the cam. Jeff is learning about the computer system that will control the injection. We are going to get it running on a test stand first and then take it to our buddy's dyno (I have never had a motor run on a dyno). Pete that owns the dyno said it won't crack 400 horses! Sounds like a challenge to me! What do you think?
440 cubic inches, eagle crank, edelbrock heads, 600 lift hyd.roller cam, roller rockers, H beam rods, Hilborn EFI injection, 11 to 1 forged pistons, and its balanced.
