No problem finding automatic 63swc. If you want an original a/c car, they are few and far between and are more expensive than those that don't have it.

If you want to add a/c to the car, there are kits out there that enable the conversion.

I say good for her asking for the vette.....the family that plays together stays together! Enjoy!

" She wants a 63 in her name "

I have always had goals. Some of the highest are never reached. In this case someone wants something because it is a status symbol. I don't believe for one moment she is going to be doing maintenance on a fifty year old car that will need work unless your bank account can afford BJ quality. If you can you certainly would not be asking questions here.
Scan the ads and make a decision. I never have to ask anyone about a purchase decision. I think it would be time for a short q&a to see which way the door slams.
Wedding gift ??????? Isn't she getting you ?

My son just sold his 73 Z28 Camaro to by his girlfriend a diamond ring. He would have jumped for joy if she asked for a 63swc.

Default Wife and Name on Title

My wife felt it was important for her to have a car in her name only. So we put it in her name. It was a 535xi BMW.

It was just something that was important to her.

If you have a good marriage, who cares who's name the car is in. Get her the car and have a great marriage.

Bob K.

BTW, my wife loves me very much, as I do her. 60K for a car does not hake her a Gold Digger, it makes her a car person like me.

Time will tell. I've been with the same gal for 1/2 century and she was just as happy riding on the back of my Honda Dream motorcycle decades back as in my $60K Corvette today...

They only made 278 Corvettes with A/C in 1963 so you'll probably be looking at an aftermarket unit. I put a Vintage Air system in my '67 and it works great.

Good luck with the car and congratulations on your upcoming marriage.

And I think she has great taste in automobiles.

Back to the OP, powerglide cars are going to be cheaper and easier to find than AC cars, but finding one with air is going to ratchet the price right back up there. Find a good rust free unit and add the air.

Default How will the SWC be used?

As others have said, you can find or build a car with AC & automatic. The question I'd ask is how is the car going to be used? If this is just going to be a weekend car what's one thing, if it's going to be a daily driver that's completely different.

Being a DD will put a lot of wear & tear on a 50 year old car which, in turn, will result in a lot of work to keep it going. I see you have a '78 so you have some idea what an older car is all about. Your bride-to-be may love the idea of owning a '63 SWC but may find that having to live with one every day is a whole lot of work.

In any case good luck with the finding a car and with your new bride.

Now I have always wanted a '63 split window myself but putting that asset in her name, damn she's a smart cookie.

I don't have much experience with C2s
So my first questions about the '63 split window car...

Can you get an auto, A/C, P/S split window car?

She can drive manual but I prefer she doesn't.

Thank you both I have no problem adding A/C to an unequiped car.

Would not be a DD it would be her weekend car maybe go to some cruise ins. I'm don't want to restore a car. I need to find one done already. I don't mind doing some stuff, like adding A/C but overall I'm looking for a turn key car.

Sounds like to me she is going to be VERY HIGH Maintenance and have a 63 SWC only in her name means if she hits the road in the car you can't catch her . You may want to think twice about that one. It would be cheaper to buy her a diamond ring . Good luck on that one . Run Forest Run. JUST KIDDING Ha Ha Ha.
If you are looking for a 63 SWC see me at Carlisle booth space M 156-158 and you may want to come early I will get there mid afternoon on Wed. to setup and be there till Sunday late morning and then home I go, with or with out the car.
