62 radiator expansion tank heat shield
I did a search and had no luck. I used my heat gun and the radiator expansion tank was 360 degrees. Does anyone make a heat shield for this. I know it just collects water that expands but it's like putting a pot of water on a hot stove. If I could elimniate this source of heat I believe it would help in the cooling. Any ideas.

My idea is to leave it alone. If you are going to try anything then as an experiment to see if it would help you could just take some of that flexible heat wrap and enclose it for a time to see if it helps. I doubt it will.

Add more coolant to your cooling system,a nd the tank will drop to about 140 degrees. If it is getting that hot, it is dry. I can easily hold my hand on the tank in my car for a few seconds after the car has been thoroughly warmed up

Somethings not right. My tank never gets anywhere near that hot. I would start by adding more coolant to it.

will add more water
[QUOTE=gbvette62;1584578207] I'll add more coolant but It's at the cold line now that's marked on the tank. I don't understand why you guys tanks are cooler. After all, the tank is fasten and sits right on top of an exhaust manifold that gets around 500 to 600 degrees hot, according to my gun. No matter how much fluid is in it, with that much radiant heat it's got to get very hot.

Somtin wong!
GM designed that tank with no heat shield because none was necessary! Fix the problem, don't make more. Don't underestimate your heat gun being wrong as well. Does your engine overheat? I keep mine around half or a little more when warm, for about 30+years now.

I have a shield for my washer pump reservoir but nothing necessary for the surge tank, hell it does its job as holding water or coolant...do as suggested, add fluid...or fix the problem if its overheating...it should on a good system have the engine temp at about 180 degrees by your dash guage....otherwise, whatever
