Default heater and a/c blower switch

The car has factory air. I can't get the blower switch to work the fan at any speed.. could it be the blower relay or resistor? Thanks !

The heater blower is grounded via a black wire that comes from the wiper motor, ties to the blower case, and then down to the starter mounting bolt. The first two things I'd check if you don't have anything happen when you turn on the fan, is check the fuse marked "heater" (second from the top, I think) and then I'd connect a jumper wire from the case of the blower motor under the hood to a good ground on the engine. In the acc (or on) ignition position the blower should work. If the fuse and ground are good, you need to check the switch itself and the connections. On an a/c car the normal blower connector is not used and is sitting unconnected behind the glove box near the left side. Basically, it takes 12v and a ground to turn the fan, so find out which is missing. It's also possible that you have an open motor winding, or it might be stuck. Check to see if the ammeter gauge jumps when you turn the fan on, that will tell you if it's bound up internally.

Thanks for your time and expertise. I will check each step out and hopefully now find the problem. Once again, thanks Jim

I'm currently troubleshooting my 67 A/C Coupe. My Blower works on High only. I'll chime in when I find out why. It may help you. Al W.

My 63 keeps blowing the fuse, but we think we narrowed it down to the switch and getting a replacement has been a chore. I was wondering why there were two similar connectors back there, now maybe I know. Would the 63 have had the dead connector too and would using it have caused the fuse to blow when running the blower with the AC if the wrong one was used? Btw, the AC without blower on did run the low speed fan.

Sorry, I don't have any experience with a 63. Maybe a 63 w/ac owner can offer something here?

Generally that is a problem with the blower resistor, either wiring or broken connection. Moving the switch to high bypasses the blower resistor and connects 12v directly to the orange wire to the fan.

Good luck with your problem on your 63.. I found out tonight that the motor is dead. I am going to replace it and see if everything is working. All the other items I checked like the ground, fuse etc. were fine. Thanks again. I keep you posted.

Check the 30amp A/C inline fuse holder. IMO if that's ok, change the relay.

Which relay and where is it located?

The A/C blower control relay is located below the RH hood latch, near the blower motor.

To "moonframer", maybe you should check this before you change your blower motor. I don't have a diagram for an a/c car, so I don't know how it fits in the circuit.

my diagram showing a-c controls in upper right corner.
the narrow vertical line indicates the firewall.
it's a regular jpg picture so that you can copy it and print it in any size .

I'd really like to have that diagram, but it doesn't show for me.

Thanks again for the advice. What I did to test the motor is run a good separate ground to the blower and also a hot lead straight from the battery and the motor wouldn't move.

I would love to find a good used motor because this car is going to be judged as a Benchmark car. I will make sure it's bad first...

Does it spin freely by hand? If not, I'd try lubing the bearing on the old motor.

Actually, I haven't had the time to pull the motor out but I will take your advise when I get it on the bench.. This car has been sitting in a garage without being used for many, many years.. Thanks
