Default Trailing arm cotter pin location

I have installed rebuilt trailing arms by Biars. Slotted shims used. I have about 3/4" from bottom of arm to frame pocket. I have 2" plus above arm to frame. If I install cotter pin @ 4 oclock from facing castle nut , the cotter would be within 1/2"-3/4" from bottom of arm. Should I be concerned with the arm hitting the pin? Has anyone installed the cotter pins at 1 or 2 oclock facing the castle nut ? Any reason why they should not? Installing the cotter pin under the arm to what I would say gives sufficient clearance will bring the ends of the shims into the lower frame pocket and the cotter pin about 5 oclock. Thoughts ?

I think he wants to drill a hole for the shim cotter pin which can only go in one location

Scott, you are correct on the cotter pin holding the shims. My bad for not being clear. You mention it can only go in one location ? 4 oclock ? My only concern it will put the cotter pin about 1/2" below the underside of trailing arm and I am not sure of how much "down" movement the trailing arm gets under normal driving conditions.

This has been done many times before. If you search in the C2 and C3 archives you should find additional discussion and pictures.
