WOW, super glad. I figured it was on it's way to a foreign country. Whoever did it had to be kids joyriding vs someone who knew what they were doing.

Congrats on retrieving it.

Do it!

Cost is $695 installed. It has a 10-year warranty for the original owner.

No yearly fee. They recommend you have it inspected every 2 years to verify it's still working. ($99)

For an additional $300, they also have an early warning system so that if your car is moved, an alarm will go off on your LoJack FOB.

Additionally they have a LoJack for classics that is self-contained and draws no battery juice from the car. ($695)

Personally, I couldn't imagine owning a classic like these and not having a LoJack installed.

That is fantastic to hear! A far better outcome than most of us would have predicted!

And not to throw cold water on celebratory hyperbole, but there is no such thing as karma or a miracle. What found this car was people, especially the Corvette / car forum community, banding together to look out for one of our own. By spreading the word coast to coast and making as many knowledgeable people aware of the situation as possible, it wound up with a comparatively happy ending.

Prompt, well-thought action is your best response. I can't begin to imagine what the owner feels like!!

Congratulations! It must have been kids because pros would have had that sucker in a thousand pieces in a day or so and it would never surface again. I'll bet the top shows up on CL or Kijiji or (doubtful) Ebay soon. Everyone keep an eye out for it.

Makes a good case for inscribing the serial number of the car somewhere secret on our hardtops. It's the easiest thing to steal and market, and can't really be traced.

Full insurance is a couple hundred a year, and you have to get it no matter what.

An extra $995? Uh, no.

I couldn't believe it when I viewed the picture after asking your uncle to send it to me.

I knew (immediately), that it was our car! I was stunned!!! I never thought we would see the car again.

Your uncle stated that the only item he wanted for his reward was to drive the car around the block. Not only will he be able to drive around the block, but you will be able to drive it as well.

Then, at the very least I want to treat you guy's and your family members to a dinner of your choice at Original Joe's!!

The power of the internet, and specifically this Corvette Forum has proven to be the ticket for the return of our car.

Thank you to the both of you!!!

I'm still in shock (again)!!

I can only assume there was just too much heat surrounding this particular '62. This car was posted everywhere!!! Several newspapers as well as the Cruisin News of which Mr. John Sweeney graciously placed a half page ad to assist for the search of our Corvette!

Also, thanks go to all who assisted with posting and re-posting my threads throughout the internet world.

Of course none of this would be possible without the assistance of friends, and more specifically Les and Kathy Nunes for spending a vast amount of their time forwarding emails, contacting and conferring with several different agencies.

As for the car itself, it's actually in pretty rough shape. The thieves must have decided to use it as an off road vehicle. There are several scrapes, and damage under the vehicle itself. The car also has several visible scratches and scrapes around the entire body of the vehicle.

Bottom line is that it's great to have our Corvette back. There's nothing that can't be repaired on the vehicle. They did take our hardtop, so I'll be watching for that on the Craig's list site, as well as ebay.

I'll take some pics and post them up tomorrow.

Thanks again to all for your support and assistance.

Just as I used to say as a Fire Captain; Independently we are nothing, collectively we become a force that can overcome most all challenges!

It's due to the collective efforts of all here (friends and strangers alike), we were able to overcome what I thought was the impossible!

Thanks again,

Pat and Terry Monahan

I am amazed and joyed that the car was found. Hopefully it wasn't / isn't to beat up and can be repaired quickly to get it back to it's former glory..

Wow. So this was just a joy ride. So any of the basic anti theft 'tricks' suggested may have prevented? Interesting. Thankfully lucky[?] as well. Any chance of catching the a holes? Spread they're names around the 'net for some additional 'attention' from 'unrelated' sources. So the victim is not involved in anyway ... a new form of 'networking'. Just like what worked so well to get the car back.

No....ignition and wiring torn apart.

I will try to put a battery in it tomorrow to see if it will start.

Unsure as to how the motor is, but at least I'll find out if it fires up.

Pat,
Today our Vette group had a run/BBQ with a very nice, big turnout. A number of folks were asking about your car and about how you guys were doing. I held off until we were all settled in for dinner and had them gather around. Only then, and with great joy, did I tell them about how things unfolded yesterday for you guys. When I announced that you had located and recovered your '62, the cheer that erupted was almost deafening. I'm surprised you didn't hear it at your place. They are thrilled for you guys and they send their best wishes for the repair process. Talk to you soon, bud.

I for one will sleep good tonight knowing your baby is back. I'm sure the insurance company will make the car better then before.
Do you know anyone in law enforcement that could help you find the theifs?
As it looks like amateurs stole the car, it sure would be nice to see the police play an active roll in apprehending these creeps. Dusting the car for prints would be a great start.
