Firing order for 1967 427/435
Is there a different firing order for the 1967 427/435? We are working on a coupe that has us stumped. Had to remove the intake maniforld due to the gasket leaking and now the thing won't start. Got it together last week and it wouldn't fire at all but fixed a wire on the distributor and now it fires but it's backfiring and will not run at all.
We installed the plug wires to the "normal" 1-8-4-3-6-5-7-2 but nothing is running right. Is there a different firing order on this engine?
We are thinking it may have something to do with the T.I. but it seems like it wants to fire but either firing order is whacko or timing is way off.
Thanks,
Bill

Is the rotor installed 180 degrees off? Or the rotor tip one tooth off from the rotor cap terminal when trying to fire??
How did you establish or verify initial timing?? Did you matchmark the rotor tip to the distributor housing to the intake manifold prior to removal and then not rotate the engine??
If you had a points setup, I could quickly tell you how to do static timing procedure to get it ready to fire. Not certain about how to do this with the TI. Perhaps you could get an induction timing light and a helper, and try to get an initial timing reading when just cranking the car.

Off the wall question....is there a stock firing order cam in the motor? A couple of cam makers are selling 4-7 swap firing order cams. Don't know what the supposed benefit is of the 4-7 swap, but those cams are out there. The standard firing order is one of two GM used on all its distributor fired V8's just about since the beginning. Heck if you decode Ford's alien cylinder numbering, even their V8 firing order is the same.
