This was too good to assume everyone would notice the update in the Sticky thread.

That is friggin awsome !! I would have bet money it would never be seen again . seems odd that it only made it to San Jose, and is on a public street, however. makes it look more like a hoodlum theft rather than a pro after all. I do hope I misunderstood about him "driving down to get it" however. hopefully the police are involved in the pick up, so they can investigate further on who stole it, and maybe get some satisfaction that way.

So glad to hear this!!!
I was probably the last guy to see it prior to the theft!
I was all over the Monterey peninsula that weekend. I retraced all of my routes because I thought at first as to where I thought I had seen it and then I wasn't sure, but it had to be at the bed and breakfast place. Just too many cars to remember in that town on such a mega car event weekend!
The unfortunate thing, is that they did not caught them and they are still out there to do it again!!!!!!!!!

I'm amazed. I thought for sure that car would never be seen again, or at the very least not in one piece. Very happy for the owner and I hope his car wasn't damaged.

Hey Guy's,
Thanks for posting this item.
It's true, our '62 Corvette was found, and it was found by this exact site on the internet!
I received a call last evening (08:05) and a gentleman named Richard told me his nephew said that he (Richard) needed to call me.
Richard had observed a red C1 Corvette parked on the street, for at least 7 days.
Richard (being a Corvette euthusiast), took a picture and sent it to his nephew. The nephew stated that the car looked like the one identified on Corvette Forum as one stolen from a B&B in Pacific Grove.
Anyway, I asked Richard to send me copy of the pic he sent to his nephew.
Within moments, I knew that it was our car!!
A buddy of mine (Les) called SJPD, while I called another friend of mine who lives in San Jose.
I asked my friend to head downtown to San Jose with an attempt to locate our car.
My buddy and his wife found the car and remained at it's side.
SJPD arrived just around 2300 hours.
In the meantime, my wife and I took the truck and trailer and headed down to San Jose.
We arrived there just about 01:30 in the morning. SJPD was still on the scene, but did want to turn the car over to me.
I signed the report, and the car was released to us. We loaded it up, secured the rig, and headed over to our friends house with an attempt to get some sleep.
We arrived there at 03:00 am and finally got to bed at 03:30 hours.
We brought the car home this afternoon. Unfortunately, it doesn't look near as good as it does in the picture, but we will get it back into action!
Thanks for all everybody has done!!!
Take care,
Pat

Some ballsy thieves hot wiring the car right in front of folks having dinner a few feet away just for a lark. I'll bet they had bigger plans for the car but got cold feet and parked it.
Anyway, its just great its back in the stable where it should be.

That is great news Glad you got your 62 back. We had a similar theft years ago here on the Cape. The guy stole a 62 and a 66 right out of the victim's garage. Myself and others id'd the perp pretty quickly and a department on the lower Cape recovered the cars in a trailer. The perp is still in jail for this and other non related crimes.

Unfortunately they didn't catch the people responsible.
They didn't hot wire it at the B&B. They pushed it out of the parking lot and then onto the street where it would roll (silently) for two blocks down to the ocean.
It's there that they probably punched the ignition and began their drive of approximately 136 miles.
It looks like several of the miles were through fields and orchards. Dirt, sand and dust throughout the car. Several scrapes on the frame, headers, front valance area, and the oil pan.
But we have it home!!

Everyone should keep their eyes peeled for a red reconditioned hardtop for sale in the online sites like Kijiji and Craigs list, even ebay, in the San Jose area. Thieves aren't smart enough to not try to sell it soon.
I hope there's no damage to the driveline.
They probably ran it low on fuel and dumped it.
