Tremec 5sp in a 66 auto
My 66 came with a 300 hp 327 and a powerglide. I have put a zz4 crate and a Tremec 5sd In. the Tremec was installed alone and the motor dropped in later and mated up. I now want to pull just the tranny. is it possible w/o pulling the engine as well?

No. The 5 speed is 3" longer. What you can do is lift the engine and move it forward without removing it. You may need to remove the front motor mounts just to slip it forward without raising it too high. Then remove the trans while it is hanging.

Tremec
I put a Tremec in my 66 and removed the engine. With that said, the DVD that I got with the transmission demonstrated how to do the job without pulling the engine. It showed that that the bell housing bolts must be removed and the transmission bolts removed and the assembly pushed to the drivers side to clear the pilot shaft. There is no way you can take the Tremec out without either removing the bell housing or moving the engine forward as mentioned above or adding a removable cross member. But, after the cursing swearing, screeming and bleeding, the Tremec is a welcome addition to a car with a low gear rear. Jerry
