Default Any here that have had car painted parts n the kitchen oven?

I painted the front and rear rotors on my coupe using heat resistant paint(silver colored paint for use on exhaust)and they need to be heathed to 150 degrees celsius for the paint to set.

I wonder if i heat up the rotors in my kitchen owen i will ruin the owen?
I use this owen for cooking so i do not want the food to taste and smell like newly painted car parts

Painted front rotors on the picture below

I wouldn't risk it in the kitchen oven. That's only about 300F........so

how about a outdoor gas grill? At least you could burn out any smell after you cook your rotors by cranking it up really high.

If not, I'd just mount in the car and a few future heat cycles may be fine.

I have a similar issue after painting 2 SB exhaust manifolds with VHT ceramic paint but need much higher temps. It needs to go 300f, cool, 450f, cool, then 600f, cool. My gas grille cannot get over 400 or so.
or........
on the car at 3 cycles running and varying the run time and cool time. I think I'll do on the car method.

There's your proof. Go for it.

My wife would object I'm sure. (if she knew about it!)

I did not ask mine

I have painted all the parts wich are supposed to remain unpainted (third arm, king pin, ...) with heat resistant paint and then have heated them up one hour in the owen at 160 ° celcius

you can have a look on my blog at http://projet-corvette58.overblog.com (all text are only in french, but you can have a look to the pictures)

Yeah, I've done it too.

No damage to the oven.

Only "problem" is that you have a spray paint smell in the kitchen for a period of time.....

The smell doesn't linger any longer than the smell of a turkey cooking in the same oven for a period of time.

The smell goes away. Go for it.

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm, are you sure you want to introduce these chemicals into your oven??????? Whatever is left in the oven after baking the painted parts can potentially become part of that Thanksgiving turkey....................or whatever else you cook in the oven. I am retired from a large automotive paint company and heating food of ANY kind in the lab ovens was strictly prohibited. The oven does harbor any residual chemicals (both safe AND harmful chemicals) that it is exposed to. I would discourage anyone from using their kitchen oven for anything other than what it was originally intended.

Been there, done that....no lasting smell. If you're worried about it just open the owen and point a fan into it after you're done for about 5 minutes.

How's the weather over there Roger?

Ha, ha, I remember the old days when I didn't have any money. I had an old Chevy P/U with a 6cyl 3sp on the column that never started when it was raining out no matter how many sets of wires & caps I put on it. I use to take the Cap and wires off on the morning of a rainy day and stick them in the oven a few minutes to dry them out, then off to work. Good thing my wife was always still in bed.

Man, I have been baking parts in the oven for more than 30 years, and have never had any issues, except for getting bitched at about using the oven!

Stinks up the kitchen for a few minutes, but the smell quickly fades (hopefully before your wife gets home from the grocery store)!

I usually bake the parts at 170 degrees. If you get too hot, you will blister the paint.

You guys make me laugh, we are all the same.
I was painting the manifolds on the '67 with POR15 and was going to cure them in the new kitchen oven, but then thought the best of it...
The Mrs. has a nose like a bloodhound and is Italian, so the kitchen is her sacred ground, cooking is a passion and almost a religion to her.
Damn glad I didn't, she came home from work early that day and I would have been caught with my manifolds baking nicely in her nice new oven.
I would be dead now.

I bought a cheep used oven from a yard sale ($20.00) and parked it in the back of the garage. I've also used it for powder coating, so it's certainly paid for itself many times over, and my wife still loves me in the morning. if you were just doing small parts, a toaster oven works also, and doesn't take up the space.

I've been baking painted parts in the oven since high school. Not because I was smart, just too impatient to wait for the paint to dry.

Amen to you, Fawnduece, my Italian wife from the Bronx would kill me for using her oven for parts, but thanks to all of you for giving me the idea to put a used oven in my new home's garage so I can powder coat and cure parts. I never thought of doing it myself. Always paid someone else to do the easy work I guess.

My wife hates it when I use the oven to cure paint, so I don't do it too often.

But, a half hour in the oven is like many, many years of curing under normal temps. Just don't make the oven too hot or you will ruin it..., the paint that is.
