Default C1 front suspension

i've got a squeaky front end, so I assume I need to replace upper & lower bushings in the A frames or towers. Thought I'd start with the uppers first.
Is this something that can be done by an old worn out shade tree mechanic with no special tools?

Do a search for front end rebuild by Tom Parsons. He shows step by step with photos .

You're going to do a complete front end rebuild because of a squeak ?

Try lubing all 22 (24 lube points if you have Zerk fittings on the U-joints) first.
Hit the front fittings with the weight of the car ON the wheels and again with the weight off the wheels (e.g. wheels hanging free). You might just find your squeak is gone.
It worked on my car.

Yup, that........and take a can of silicone spray, one at a time, hit your sway bar joint rubber bushings behind the radiator. Then spray the upper and lower end link rubbers and joints both sides. Do the shake test after each one.

I'll wager all of those 6 locations are very dry.

ALL of the above information is good. BUT, if ANY of the front suspension joints in a 53-62 Vette are squeaking, that means they are dry. Thus, that means they are now metal-to-metal. As a result, DEPENDING ON HOW LONG they have been squeaking and wearing, then is is quite possible some (or a lot) of slack in the joint(s) has occured. This slop will (or can) significantly effect alignment and result in poor handling.

As a friendly reminder:

The Owner's Manual specifies greasing the front suspension (all 22 fittings) every 1000 miles.

And recommend you use a good quality EP grease with moly.
